• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Relocate the Horn Button??

I'm starting to think that I may need to relocate my horn button - has anyone done this? On 2 separate occasions, I have been in situations where I tried to honk my horn, only to hit the shift paddle. :gaah: I have small hands and in order to reach the horn button with my thumb, have to lift my hand, with only my fingers on the grip, and in an emergency situation, don't feel that would be very safe to do. I would love to relocate the button, but 1) am not sure if it's possible, and 2) don't know where to relocate it to. :dontknow:
Perhaps I just need to practice hitting the button (when no one's around of course ;)). But in the meantime, it scares me to think what could happen if I can't find the button. :helpsmilie:
Anyone else experience this?

I had a similar problem when I first got the Spyder RT and was getting use to the controls except I kept hitting the horn button when meaning to use the turn signals. I have a Stebel Nautilus air horn which is quite loud. Gives me a bit of surprise when it happens. :yikes: Don't think you could easily use an external button unless it's wired to a relay that would drive an external horn like the Stebel air horn directly from the battery. Or you could try attaching something to the existing button like a lever that would be closer to your hand to access the horn.

Heh, do this all the time on my RS. Hit the horn when I'm trying to use the turn signal or shifter paddle. Always fun while sitting in a parking space, or even my own driveway :opps:.

It's happened to me everytime I get a new bike. In fact, when I go riding with friends, you can always tell who got a new bike because they are the ones honking the horn around turns.

When I first got my RT some clown cut me off on the highway and BOY did I flash my blinkers at HIM !

Thats all right we were on a ride after we had lunch got on :spyder2: to go, tride to start it and nothing after a few trys i stopped and thought what am i doing wroug, In the mean time everyone is waiting I looked at my wife and shes wondering whats wrong I pushed another button an it started, later we had stop for gas she ask what happend back there, Oh nothing :spyder2: was being a pain. She said what !. I told her i was pushing the PTT button and and was to embarrast to tell everyone. I've had my :spyder2: for all most two years. The moral of the story is your going to hit the wroug button sometime our another. Remember Practice--Practice--Practice

Thanks for the laughs guys :D, I will keep practicing before deciding on making any mod to the horn button.

hitting wrong switch on rt

I was startled from a trucker on my cb and attempted to reply and downshifted running 65 on cruise. Almost went over the windshield. My next act of genius was trying to sound horn and raised windshield. :D

Personally I think in an Emergency you need to think Brake or Turn or Gas It? By the time you try to hit the horn (Even IF someone is Un- distracted enough to hear it:hun:) you have wasted valuable time that could save you an Unhealthy outcome?

:agree: I use the horn so seldom that I always have to search for it. About a century ago, my driver's ed teacher told me that a good driver never had to lock up his brakes, never caused anyone else to lock up their brakes, never blew their horn, and never caused anyone else to blow their horn. I have never forgotten that.

My Grandpa always believed...

that if you had a horn, you didn't need any brakes. And he had the layers of paint on his fender to prove it !
