There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Red Bull false ad settlement sees $13M payout

I used to drink this stuff, I never thought it worked any better than a few cups of coffee. It was pretty tart to me.
If you want to claim your $10 cash refund, register online here by March 2, 2015. No proof of purchase is required.
Of course people will be taking advantage of this whether they purchased the stuff of not. Because of this, the settlement site might be very slow.
I bet the 5-hour Energy Drink will get it's turn to pay out.

The plaintiffs claimed that the company’s advertised benefits, like increased performance and reaction speed, were false advertising, and not backed up with scientific evidence. One of the plaintiffs said despite drinking the product since 2002, he saw no improvement in his athletic performance.

Never tried the product. Also, to lazy to jump through hoops to get $10. I am guessing that is what the manufacturer is hoping for too.

"This service is unavailable"
Maybe they need a quick "Red Bull" or two; in order to improve their own performance... :D

Red Bull will pay it no matter how many people put in for it. It'll sit in a fund managed by the plaintiffs' lawyers. In addition to the lawyers taking at least 1/3 of the settlement, they'll earn management fees. The only ones making out are the lawyers!

Hi Patti,

Re: The only ones making out are the lawyers!

My son is an attorney. He likes to eat on a fairly regular basis. His wife & daughter also like to eat on a fairly regular basis.

This is not a bad thing.

PS) And what is it you do for a living? ;)

Don't get your panties in a wad, Jerry. I don't begrudge attorneys making a living at all. If I get into trouble I'd gladly pay one to help me. But class action suits are usually initiated by lawyers, looking for some corporation to target. So much of it is just a racket, and lots of attorneys get rich from it. Note that the situation in discussion was a settlement, not a judgement. The company no doubt decided $13M is cheaper than defending their side. If the US would adopt a loser-pays model like other countries, we'd see a lot less of these cases.

BTW, I'm retired.

Hi Patti,

Re: Don't get your panties in a wad, Jerry.

I never do. I tried to make the post as light-hearted as I could.

Re: Your thoughts on class action lawsuits; I had breakfast this morning with a friend and his wife of over 50 yrs now. They bought a house in the Seattle area that now leaks because the builder did not install the flashing as called for in the plans. They are now part of a class action against the builder. Do you think they should just suck it up and move on?

I think most of us, at one time or another, think that someone is suing when they should not be. My take is that as long as it legal, then go for it.

As DeToqueville, said: "Eventually, everything in America will be decided in a court room."

Re: BTW, I'm retired.

So am I; great club, isn't it?

Hi Jerry,
As an insurance, who really CAN'T afford to eat out... even on an irregular basis :D, I'd just like to mention something that my Grampa Denman used to say quite often...
"Just because you CAN do something; it doesn't mean that you should..."
I do agree with Patti; our court system needs to go to a, "You lose the case; you pay the freight" system.

Hi Bob,

Re: I do agree with Patti; our court system needs to go to a, "You lose the case; you pay the freight" system.

Whenever I read or hear anyone espousing thinking like this I usually say, "So what have you been doing to change things?"

Most people do nothing.

I prefer how things are now,

PS) I have found that many, many people despise attorneys; until they need one.

I think that Danny Devito might have said something like this in the move, "Other People's Money"
and I don't remember the exact quote: pure paraphrasing here...
"Lawyers are like nuclear bombs: handy if you do need them, but they do muck up the landscape"

I'll have to see if I can find the exact wording... :D

EDIT: I found it...
"They're like nuclear warheads. They have theirs, so I have mine. Once you use them they f - - everything up. "
