Rear Sprocket Bearing Change Questions for Tech??

Getting ready to have the 30K mile maintenance done on my 210 RT and was checking my maintenance schedule so I don't look too stupid when I talk with my CanAm tech on what needs to be and not needs to be completed. I saw that the rear sprocket bearing is to be replaced, and I have two questions:
-is this like the 14K mile valve adjustment (recommended by BRP but maybe not necessary)? or
-Is this really an inspect then replace if required?

I did a search and didn't find anything directly related to this schedule. I might add that I've experienced no driveline problems, unusual belt wander or wear, nor have I experienced any weird sounds, smells, etc from under the Spyder. Any thoughts, comments, or recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Jim

Gee wizz; if you have 30K on those bearings and they haven't given you any grief, change them quick before they do.

Seems like I remember Lamont saying to change all three bearings @ every other tire change. FWIW
:yikes:

Depends..!

Have an RS sm5 and ryde pretty agressively. At 22,000 miles I replaced my rear tire and checked all bearings and they were fine. Do have a full set on hand. I now have over 30,000 miles and alls well but will check the bearings again when I replace the rear tire. There were issues with the bearings because of the belt tension. Since then they have adjusted the recommended tensions. I keep to the lower readings which may help keep my bearings from wearing out prematurely... but it is a choice...:lecturef_smilie:

For those of us that only got 5800 miles on there tire I was not going to replace the bearings unless something changed my mind during the wheel removal process.

Odd

Odd to have to replace wheel bearings so often. We inspect them at every service, but have not had an issue; our other bikes never have wheel bearing problems, either! Why are BRP wheel bearings not lifetime bearings?

At 23K my '11 RT bearings were changed. Slight wear on the two single row bears and none on the double row (belt side) but I had it changed as well. Best I can recall, all three bearings are in the $50 range so they are not very expensive.

I would change the sprocket bearing while they have the wheel off and for the $$$ you have more confidence?

Changed All 3 bearings on my GS at 18,000 !

:agree: If the rear wheel is going to be off the bike; ALWAYS take a good look at the bearings...

...And plan on changing them at every other rear tire change... nojoke

As always, great responses. Thanks for the help; I'll be talking with my tech and swapping the bearings out tomorrow.

I am on my 4th rear tire and I still am on the.original.bearings. I have 35,000 miles on mine and I will replace as needed.

When I replaced my rear tire myself at 12K miles, I inspected the bearings and they were fine.
When I go to do that again at about 25K, I will replace the bearing just for piece of mind even if they inspect fine.
Just me..... Why risk it? They are cheap and not worth having problems.
