There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Rear Ended

Wow, only had my spydie for about a month and was rearended at a light today. His bumper rode up my tire and wiped out the fender and braces. Didn't break any lenses on the lights though. I jacked up the rear tire off the ground and put it in gear and the tire rolls true so no damage to the wheel or tire. Guess I'm lucky for that. Looks worse than it really is though. I've noticed a few spyders where people take the fender and braces off. Is this legal to do? Thinking of doing this myself for now. Don't ride in the rain or on gravel roads so don't think it would affect me at all. Where do most people attach the license plate when this is done? So I'm thinking I don't need the rear fender or braces. Any thoughts about this?

Wow... glad to see that you don't seem to be hurt, that is great news!

Sad about the Spyder damage, but machines can be fixed easily. I know it does not look like there is any damage other then the fender and braces, however, you may want to have the rear hub/axel and bearings and belt checked for tension and damage just to be sure. Not sure if you are mechanically included, and if not, I would recommend getting an authorized dealer take a look at it for structure integrity, just to be safe.

Again, glad you're ok.
cheers.

I was almost rear ended twice in 3 days right after I had bought my spyder. I called ESI and order the triple play and along with the LED Givi bag light kit. It makes a big difference over the stock tail, brake and turn signal lights. If you don't have them. They are IMHO well worth it. Since, I've installed them I have not had a close call at all.

I would get it to a dealer and have it looked at from head to toe. It may have more than just a bent fender, as there are lots of pieces that could have bent slightly, causing alignment problems. I'd have everything fixed back to original, then remove the fender if you so desire. After all it is on his dime. There have been pictures posted of people removing the rear fender, with the owners saying that they had no issues with the fender no longer there. Not sure where the license plate goes though. Best of luck and sorry about the accident.

:agree: Bigtime. Get to your dealer !

First, I'm glad you're okay.
Second, take your Spyder to your dealer, have them check EVERYTHING. The frame, swing arm, all the bearings, bushings, rear wheel and tire, even the rear shock. Chances are it's bent somewhere, it wasn't designed to take impact from that direction, and if the seat support is bent, that part also holds your gas tank.

Any dent in the structure required a full frame replacement. nojoke

Glad you are fine. The spyder can be fixed easily. You..not so easy.
There are several posts, pictures regarding removing the rear fender as well as mounting the license. Just do a search.
+1 on the triple play lighting from ESI. I would also look into the mudflap lights as well. Between the 2 there's lots of visibility.

So glad you are okay, at least I hope you are, you didn't say you were hurt. I know you said the spyder damage looks worse than it is. But as others have stated, get it checked out. There could be unseen damaged that could come back to haunt you. To answer your question, you have to check with your state to see if a rear fender is required or not. You also have to check about license plate placement. In Michigan, no rear fender required but plate must be a certain level from ground and has to be horizontal not vertical. Check the mods section and you will see a few different ideas.

In the fourth picture the brace looks like it dented your exhaust some...may not be the case. It is hard to tell in that picture angle. Glad you are ok! Any idea how fast he was going? Do you think that fender saved your tire? :spyder:

Chris :doorag:

If your belt is still lined up the way it was before the accident, then chances are the damage is only cosmetic. The tire itself likely absorbed the impact.

Better to be on a Spyder if that happens. When it happened to me on my Suzuki, I was thrown to the pavement and spent a month off work and thirteen trips to the chiropractor.

:yikes: Glad you are ok!! I think the person who hit you owes you a NEW bike!!!! He's lucky he's not paying a hospital (or worse) bill!!!

First of all, thanks to everyone about my health concerns. I wasn't injured but did go the the hospital later that day just to get checked over. A few sore muscles but other than that, I'm just fine. Now to answer a few questions. I was sitting at a light and a 83 Ford f-150 hit me doing about 10-12 mph. Basically what happened was his front bumper (being as high as it is) rolled up over the tire and of course wiping out the rear fender and braces. The frame absorbed no shock, no damage to the frame, swing arm, or bearings. No damage to the seat support either. Did blow the fuse for the taillight and license plate light. Replaced that and works fine. Now have taillights and brake lights. Even the taillights didn't have a scratch on them. Had a friend of mine that works on the Can-Am Atv's at a shop here come over and he gave it his once over too. Took it for a test run and he followed me and said there was no wobble on the tire and it tracked straight. After the run, we checked the bearings for any heat and there was none. He says that the spyder frame is basically the same frame Can-Am uses on their ATV's. And he say's they are very tough and solid frames. He says if they do have a bent frame, they will total out the unit. Of course i will take mine into the dealer here for their inspection. Waiting now for the insurance adjuster to call me about this. The shop here wanted me to leave it with them and I won't do that. The reason is, they have outside storage and I learned a lesson years ago about that. Left a bike with a dealer and mysteriously the wheels came up missing and went thru you know what to get them replaced. To this day, I trust no dealer. My friend told me that the dealerships aren't selling alot of new units do to the ecomomy and that the service departments are keeping the dealerships alive with the service on bikes. Even just talking over the phone with them about the incident, they're ready to total it out before they even look at it, so that I'll buy a new one. Like i said, be leary about some of these dealerships. :spyder:
