Pulling to the right

I have a 2013 RT-S that has 3100 miles. I don't see any uneven tire wear yet but when on cruise the bike always pulls to the right. Guessing alignment problem. Anything I should know or be armed with when I go in for my next service due in about 500 miles. I feel pulling to one side or the other is not normal. I'm still figuring every think out about it.

First, check the front tire pressures. A low tire can cause it to pull to one side. Also have the dealer check the steering sensor calibration. That can do it, too. If you experience limp mode, it is certain to need calibration. If it is actually following the crown of the road, and switches on an off-camber stretch of pavement or over bumps, it is more likely alignment (insufficient toe-in) or a steeply crowned road.

Tire pressure is the same in both tires, 17 psi. I have been on the side of the road were the crown is up hill to my right and it still pulls to the right. No warnings, no limp modes. Everything seems to be in normal order. I tested the pull on cruise control.

same problem with mine

i have the same problem with my 2013 1000 miles! Took it to the dealer but they claim the alignment is fine but I am the first person they sold a bike to since they became a dealer. I thought it was me because i keep reading post that say you have to get used to the bike .So i went to see a friend that has a 2008 spyder and he drove mine and i drove his WOW I could let go of the bars and probably had a sandwich what a difference ! It didn't care about the crown of the road either , it only turned when told! we found that there was some play in the bars we think it is out of the steering box. You can feel the play even off and parked. So i went to the dealer and felt about ten machines and most of them had the same play but his 2008 with 26000miles had no play at all so go figure? I'm stumped myself.I also keep breaking sway bar links ! they can't figure that out either! I'm getting disgusted with the whole thing! Lots of things could be in play here...toe-in, steering centering, steering sensor calibration, steering sensor problems, suspension damage, or something else. Your dealer seems to be unable to rise to the task. If you can possibly do it, a visit to another dealer would be good. If that is not possible, talk the dealer into contacting BRP dealer tech support for assistance. Contact BRP and open a case file if necessary. From what I have heard Facebook may be the best place to contact them at this time.

One of your front tires could be causing the pull. To eliminate this possibility, switch the front tires. If it pulls in the opposite direction, the tire on the side it is pulling to is bad. Should be covered by warrantee

I had a same problem with going to the left but only on crowned roads it seemed. Anyways my dealer suggested I go up 1-2 settings on the front shocks. So I did go up 1 setting & its some what better.

One factor to consider is accessories mounted to the handle bars. Mug holder + beverage can induce a preceived pull. It affects my 2012 Limited. :opps:

If it always pulls to one side no matter where you ride I'd bet it is the steering sensor calibration. I had the same problem on my 2012 RT, I could ride the center of the crown, the right of the crown and the left of the crown and the Spyder always pulled left. At first the tech claimed it was my tire pressure being uneven and after that I built a dual fill device so both front tires had the exact same pressure. Then they finally plugged in the BUDS and in 30 seconds had the steering sensor calibrated and all was good after that.

I don't know if I'd want to try just swapping from side to side; the treads are directional...
The bike should still be under warranty; let the dealer take it for a ride and document the "pull", then let them start checking for anomolies in the setup...
Please let us know what they find!

How bad would would you say the pulling is? If you jump to the other side of the road "when safe to do so" does it slightly go away. Does the bike pull harder when braking? Does speed change the pulling effect?

Sent from my Galaxy S3. I may have made a spelling error or may have some grammer issues. My fingers are way to big to type on this tiny screen!

It pulls no matter where I'm at on the road and doesn't pull any worse when braking, I have 400 miles before taking it in for next service, I will talk to them about it then.

Back in shop, they had to replace the stabilizer bar link rods. Still pulls to right. BRP won't authorize a front end alignment. Just got off the phone and if I want to pay to find out what is making it pull the right I can and it will cost me $382 for front end alignment.

Seriously did you ask them to check the steering center on BUDS? I saw the screen one button will calibrate it. As suggested the sensor may need calibrated and it should be covered under warranty. I would be looking for another dealer if they test drove it and could not diagnose it.

Don't accept this answer if your dealers agrees with you. This is a new machine and it is a BRP problem. If the dealer doesn't agree, take it to a different dealer and get their opinion. I they think it is OK, you are probably going to have to pay for it yourself.

I did ask about putting it on the Buds and check steering sensor. There reply we can't afford to put a tech on it. Called BRP this morning. They couldn't believe there response. I have a Case # now. Pretty sad when dealer says yes it's pulling to the right but don't want to find out why. I'm in AZ and Ride Now Motor Sports has it pretty well sold up in the state.

:hun: It takes all of 5 min to hook up BUDS minus the computer boot up time that is just plain unbelievable. When will BRP start policing their dealer network it obviously way past time for some pop inspections.

Give service a call at Apache Motorcycles Mesa 480-325-1818 for your 2013 Spyder RT steering problem.
They were great helping me on 2011 RT rear brake calper problem, no charge, maybe because I drove from Tucson for their help.
