Hi, everyone! I'm a prospective buyer, & I would appreciate some advise before buying. I'm looking at the RT Roadster. I've never been on a bike before. I understand that I'm a target audience. I'm 55 & have a few physical limitations. I'm a little guy- 5'2' & 138 lbs. I have osteoporosis, so I'll break easy & heal hard. That's why I don't want a 2-wheeler. I also have arthritis- worse in my hands. I'm concerned about how much muscle is required to steer. I'm also worried about my hands cramping up by holding the throttle. I know they have cruise control, but that's often not practical around town. On top of that I have a bad back. I was also told by a rental salesman that they break down easily & parts are hard to get. His problem may have been that he didn't properly train new riders & gave them manual transmissions. I'm interested in what owners have experienced- especially new riders. I would appreciate whatever MATURE suggestions anyone could give- either positive or negative. I'm also scared of the $27,000 price. Are there many used Roadsters with semi-automatic transmissions that haven't been beat up. Thanks for your help- Mike W.

There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

The RS SE5 is the first bike I've ever driven and owned. I am short and have back problems too and it seemed perfect given those limitations. I'm not the best person to ask as I am currently dealing with steering issues which some, be it a small minority from the best I can tell, have. I think the price on them is too high, but you could probably get a slightly used one shortly much cheaper. I think I would be a little cautious of getting a slightly used one as some people dumb them when they have the steering problems but I think people on here that are selling tend to be honest if this is an issue.

I also have issues with height 5'5" and a bad back. Been driving Spyders since they first came out and have loved all 30K miles I have logged on them. I dont find a problem with steering input or throttle grip problems. The throttle is now fly by wire--so does not require much input. Have put 6K miles on my new RTS since March 26th and really like the ergonomics of the machine. Suggest you find a dealer that will let you throughly test drive one. A hundred miles or so will help you determine if the RTS is for you. The 27K price is big--but in the long run I believe the price is worth it for what you are getting. The Spyder is a real technology machine. I am somewhat hinky about used machines. I would want to know the true history of the machine as well as getting a legitimate warranty from the dealer. Also, ask around as to which dealer to purchase from--there are some bad ones out there. You want a dealer who will treat you right up front and deliver quality service after the sale. Good luck in your quest for a Spyder.

Mike, The RT is a great bike, they have power steering so not hard to steer at all, the trottle takes no effort at all so you can ride a long time with out stopping. I would suggest a utopia back rest if you have back problems as I do it makes a long trip very easy (just did a 1000 mile trip and no problems) as for break downs none that I have heard about but they (as any first year machines do) have some issues but rest assured BRP has one of the best warranties I have ever seen in a lot of years with new motorcycles. I love my RTS and my 08 RS and highly recommend either one to a new rider or experienced rider! As for finding a used SE5 I don't think you are going to have much luck but I wish you all the best and hope this helps.:spyder:
