• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Power Cable Routing

Texas

New member
I'm going to be installing a hardwired Micro B power cable for my mobile phone. I need a clean way of routing it up around the steering column, and then on the left side of the handlebars. Having yet to take any plastic off the RT, what is the best way (for keeping it both simple and clean looking) to route the cable? I'm looking to all of you RT DIY Gurus for answers ;)

Wiring..!!

its going to be a visual thing. I would pull the platics and follow exsisting harness wiring. Zip tie and branch off where you need to. If you go into the bars allow slack for turning side to side. There may be some videos of other work in that area that can help..good luck you will find the best route once you have a look...

I would pull the covers. It's not hard really. Like Chupa said doing it this way allows you to tie wrap the wires and secure them properly so they are not dangling and chafing on stuff inside. Especially 12V! Last thing you want is a short.

Where did you get the hard wire 12V to 5V step down micro usb cable. Minis are easy to get but I could not find a micro one last year.

I use a TAPP USB power port mount on right panel.

This is how I wired my TomTom Rider 2013. Perhaps this will give you an idea how to do what you want.

It is a switchable power supply, connected via the fuel gauge.

Remove the upper side panels on the bike and the black cover on underside of the handle bar on the side you want bring the cable out. Drill a small hole near the top of the black plastic cover you took off and file it to a rectangle to allow the Mini/micro USB to come through. Fish the other end down the area where all the other cables feed down through in the base of the handle bar then pull it to where ever you are going to power it from. You will also need to remove the black sub panel that covers the area just below the handlebars to allow you to see everything. The to remove the cover from the bottom of the handle bar you will want to cut a Allen wrench down just sort enough to allow you to reach the lower screws up inside the recessed holes.

Call me if you need more info.

Very nice write-up. You're a lot better about documenting your work than I am. Usually I start off with good intentions to document, but then my hands get dirty and I don't want to touch the camera until I'm done.
