There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Positive 2013 spydie comments

Went to local dealer for a couple small warranty issues on my 2013 RTse5 in yellow and found it to be an interesting and enlightening experience. First, I learned my spider hasn't thrown any codes in 2000 miles of use. Second, my rpms have only exceeded 6000 about 7% out of over 60 hours of ride time, so I might want to ride at higher rpms. Good info.

Third, the certified tech showed me how to remove side panels properly so I wouldn't break or lose the rubber gaskets that help hold the panel in place to check oil. I'm practicing pulling front edge first, up on top corner hook, and then pull rear side off.

Tech told me I have the quietest brakes on any spider he has tested. My complaint was about a slight squeak when stopping, and this seems to be nature of the beast? Dealer couldn't complete the newest recall on my spyder, the parts needed are on order, but he did update the ecm and opined that might help with the hesitation at slow speeds I had concern about. Our park has a 15mph speed limit which causes spider to pull hard at the leash at a slow go.

Dealer will also install my battery tender gratis on next visit so I don't have to worry about it not staying charged properly. (Side note: They have a sign in their service area that states mc's should be ridden a minimum of 25 miles per week to help keep bike in top shape.)

Tech was also happier about the design of the 2013 as far as getting in to service the battery and other parts of the engine. Seems to make his life easier. Also hasn't had to deal with heat problems in the 13's that are coming in. He does remember a 2012 st? that had the gasoline smell in the garage. BRP ok'd complete fuel system change out, which in the end, didn't seem to help.

Also, suggested keeping tires at upper suggested limits, but not over. Overall, I was happy with the service provided. I showed up for appt. on time and they handled bike in time span they estimated.
Dealer was Apache Motorcycles Mesa, Az.

As an individual with very little mechanical experience, it was a pleasure to have someone take the time to answer all my simpler questions with grace. Good to hear nice comments about the 2013's.

That's great to hear. I've got 4500 miles on my 2013 with no issues.

The Brembo brakes on the 2013 are awesome. Mine squeaked as well, but it went away after 1500+ miles. The dealer told me to wait until then and if not, then come back, but it did go away as they suggested.

Yes, the ECM update is supposed to address the hesitation on the SE5, so hopefully the fix was as easy as that.

The way to get rid of that is to remove the evap canister. It is very simple to do. Some have noted that it might be illegal to remove it, but I'd rather not set the garage on fire or suffocate from the fumes that it fills the garage up with.

Good to hear nice comments about the 2013's.

Yes, the 2013 is a great machine, but as you will find on this sight that some people have had issues with melted parts, boiling gas and extreme heat. There is also a lot of good information on this site for helping to deal with that. The ECM update that you just got is supposed to address that as well (probably because the OEM FI map was too lean) so hopefully you won't have any of those issues.

Battery Tender Connection

"Dealer will also install my battery tender gratis on next visit so I don't have to worry about it not staying charged properly...."

Take a look at page 60 in your owner's manual and find the information below. I moved fuse 6 to position 7 and plug my battery tender into the power outlet in the rear trunk and it works great. No need for an extra cable unless you don't want your 12v outlet hot all of the time. Good luck.

Using the 12 V Power
Outlet
A 12 V power outlet is available on the
vehicle. It is located in the top storage
compartment

A 12-volt electric appliance may be
connected to the jack connector. Electric
current is supplied all the time.
NOTICE
The 12-volt power outlet
is not designed to supply current of
more than 3 amperes.
NOTE:
Leaving an appliance connected
while the engine is not running
will gradually discharge the battery.
NOTE:
When fuse 6 is installed in the
RH fuse box, 12 V power outlet is only
operational when ignition switch is at
ON position. When fuse 7 is installed,
12 V power outlet is always operational.

I personally wouldn't worry all that much about the 7%/6,000-7,000 rpm statistic. I had mine run around 9,000 miles and it showed 5%/6,000-7,000. I was advised that the important catagory was 4,000-5,999 which I was running 50% of the time. I'd venture to say that you shift from 4th gear to 5th at just a little over 70 mph. That will drop your rpms from around 6,000 down to 5,000.

I guess I should include that I have a 2013 RT-Se5.

Keep your grommets in place! An easy thing for peace of mind....

Hello my spyderlover friends....

I saw on a previous post and also have done on my 2012 Spyder RT Limited (now will do on my 2014) --- put a small nylon cable tie around each grommet to it's mounting hole/frame. Might hold them in better, but will definitely help you not lose them. I had one fall out (found it luckily on my garage floor) and I thought about the previous post stating to use cable ties. Haven't lost one yet by this method!!

Everytime I take a new panel off, I remember to do this to the exposed grommets. Over time, should get to them all.

I like the note about fixing the low RPM hesitation, I thought it was just me. lol

Especially coming out of a slow corner and hitting the throttle only to take a second or two to catch up. :banghead:

I have also used Apache Motorcycles in Mesa, Az. First class operation. Always on time and on budget, from estimate. If more dealers were like this there would be so many complaints on this website.

I'm a little confused, so maybe it's the slow speed corners that are getting me? lol

I know drive by wire in some cars has a slight hesitation because some car companies just suck at technology, but you would think a performance powersport company could work out the hesitation?

Perhaps Ford can give them some pointers? Ford cars have literally no hesitation anymore w/ drive by wire cars. :dontknow:

Great to hear such positive feedback for the '13 RT/ST lineup. All is not lost with these models.
Sounds like you have a great dealership (service depth included) which goes a LONG way in being a satisfied Spyder owner. Here's to many more trouble - free miles on the road for you!!!

Talking spyder here. If It's RPM's are too low when you twist the grip it will hesitate. This engine likes to spin and that's hard for some to get their head around.(pre 2014 engines)

That makes sense.

Too bad people don't make tunes for these like they do cars and overcome this problem.
