Polish scratches from gauges?

Just got my :spyder2:back from the shop and one of the things they did was to change out the cluster due to bad readings. everything seems to be working okay, but they seem to have scratched the plastic face.:banghead:
I'm going to be contacting them about it, but unsure what the outcome may be. Does anyone know, if something like plast-x could safely polish that out, or if it would cause additional damage?

Plast-x I use on light scratches on my face schield . I would make them fix it. Mike

I would think the dealer will take care of it for you, If its a deep scratch there isn't too much you can do with plastic. I polished a lot of plastic in my time with rouge, and it was always hit and miss.
Its very easy to over work it and dull it up,

Even if I could "rub" them out I'd still inform the dealer, no need of that.

If it's a light scratch you can easily fix it yourself with a good clear plastic scratch remover. If you can "feel" it with your fingernail have the dealer replace it.

On a different, but related note, the odo started out at zero again, after the cluster was swapped out. Can the initial miles be programed back in? Dealer said no, but worth asking.

If the dealer is going to "buff" it to try to fix it your golden ...He/they have admitted responsibility or else they wouldn't touch it ..so if it comes out PERFECT fine if not tell them to replace it.....they have already admitted fault......Mike....:thumbup:

Brasso! Yup! Took scratches out of my windshield with it.

Won't rubbing compound take out the scratches easily? Something like a product from Automotive Touchup?

Just got it back from the dealer and they ended up using Maquire's #7 super fine rubbing compound and it turned out flawless. Can't even tell there were any scratches. Evidently that's some good stuff.

Just remember to replace your cluster again when it comes time to trade up at the same dealership! Zero miles! JUST KIDING I WOULD NEVER SUGGEST SUCH A THING! Heh heh

Thankfully it only had 1200 miles on it before, so I don't have too much "splainin" to do. Just find it hard to believe such a computerized complex machine has no way of allowing mileage entry. I realize people could crack and reset it, but that could be a dealer only or BUDS type tool!

Dealer said it can be used on the windshield and paint as well. They said it is a super fine abrasive that takes elbow grease, but does a great job.
