• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Planning to join Spyder Nation

Hello all, just wanted to introduce myself as a prospective new Spyder owner. I'm planning to trade in my BMW R1200RT for a Spyder as soon as the 2020's come out. As much as I love riding on 2 wheels, I'm just ready to try something different. From my test rides at the dealer so far, I'm leaning towards a new RT Limited package. Can't wait to get out on the road with one and get some miles in!

They are impressive, not sure I'll get the first year until I see some performance comments. I can empathize with you giving up the BMW RT, it's best of the BMW line up in my opinion. When in my widower days it was really a great machine for one up riding, two up, not so much. I see potential in the 2020 RT Spyder in the 47 gallon long ride storage capacity.

Japgen,

I think the Spyder RT is a good choice for someone coming from the BMW RT. Both have many comfort features and as such I think you won't feel like you are compromising too much with your new toy. I came also from BMW's, the GS and the R. The only real difference for me is leaning in the curves, leaning to turn feels a bit more natural. I just did my first oil change on my F3. The BMW Boxer's are considerably easier to service but I'm OK now with my Spyder after just one oil change.

Good luck!

I came over from a Yamaha Venture in September to a 2018 RTL... you will love the Spyder once you get used to the leaning into curves and not choking your handlebars ... good luck, you'll love it!!

What model year was your Venture. My friend has the loaded 2018 Venture. It is a sweet ride. I only rode it once for about a 1/2 hour. It is very smooth and powerful. Easy to shift, and does not feel that heavy for such a big bike. My previous Indian chieftain with trunk on back felt heavier.

RT, F3, Ryker, They all have there own ups and downs, and feel different in the saddle!!! Take your time, find a dealer that will let you out on the road and do a good test ride!! Then make your choice, you will love it!!!! Good Luck, Happy shopping!!!
And :welcome:

Welcome to the site. Going RT from a BMW will be a good move. If you have a chance though, it may be well to test sit and test drive the 20's when they hit the showrooms. There are some pretty good choices between the RT's and the F3's.

Let us know which you finally decide on.

Thanks to all for the encouragement and advice. I am a little bit worried about losing the 2 wheel gyroscope effect, but overall I think a Spyder will work for me. I'm also a big bicyclist and converted a couple years ago to a tadpole trike for less wear and tear on the body from riding a conventional diamond frame. I'm also a long time snowmobile rider, and from my limited Spyder test rides, I would say it handles similarly to a sled. Sort of, anyway.

Welcome to the Forum Japgen. I think you will love the Spyder Ride, nothing like it. Live to Ride, Ride to Live!!

JP58 ... It was an 09 Venture S... so comfortable on the highway but awkward and top heavy in parking lots... sucker weighed close to 1200 pounds once loaded with luggage and me!! Getting to an age where I am not as coordinated as I once was, had a couple minor mishaps that could have been FAR worse and so decided it was time to shift to something less likely to fall over on me!!

You've got it! Those of us who have ridden snowmobiles or ATVs are quick to note the Spyder handles much more like one of them than it does a two wheeler. With that experience you will probably become one with the Spyder in 200 miles rather than in 2000 miles like some without such experience have needed.
