Passenger experience

Well lucky for me Lamont let me ride his Spyder this weekend when we were in Maggie Valley, NC. It was an interesting experience. I am still on the fence but starting to get serious about thinking about the Spyder.

I love riding a MC, I own a M109 and a 2001 Wing, I just recently sold my Hayabusa so this is a real change in mindset.

I am curious on some opinions on how a passenger adjusts to the Spyder. I cant help but feel they are intially going to be less comfortable without leaning.

My wife doesn't really care for riding 2 up on the Spyder. She said it made her feel like we were going to tip over in the corners. Of course this is competely fine with me because she rides her own bike and we do very little 2 up riding. :spyder:

Whoops - didn't notice the "passenger" constraint...solo riding only synopsis (MHO):

It takes a while to get used to it after riding on two wheels for a lot of years.

I bought mine about 1.5 months ago... sold the GW within a couple of weeks after... still have the custom Valk but hardly ride it any more.

This thing's a hoot once you get used to it.... at all speeds.

We bought "our" Spyder earlier this month with the intent to share it, and ride two up some of the time. I was the passenger and felt like I was going to fall off in a corner or when he gave it some gas. A passenger backrest would really help a lot.
Our solution, though, was to go back to the dealer and have them put the paperwork in my name instead of his. Now he's back on his Ducati, and I'm LOVIN' my new Spyder! :D
(P.S. I don't have any trouble keeping up with the Duc!)

Back rest is a must.......BRP unit works great but is Pricey. Also I set my shocks to the max...really helps with passenger aboard.Wife and I have been riding together for 40 plus years....bikes,trikes, and Spyder.....she likes the passenger perch and Spyder ride.No complaints!

I could have gave you a ride on the back like Mario did me.:D:yikes:

Hope it works out for you Bro.:spyder:

welcomeand:congrats:

Having ridden on the back with and without the BRP backrest, there is a world of difference. You feel much more sway without it. The BRP backrest is expensive, but it comes on and off in 15 seconds and its curved shape really makes you feel more secure than a standard motorcycle backrest. If you want your wife to be comfortable get a backrest. If you want to ride alone, leave it off.

Congrats on acquiring your Spyder. I'm glad we bought two from the git go as I wouldn't like to relinquish my Spyder to my wife, no matter how much I love her. :D

Lamonster, I really think you need one more ride just to get it on video for the rest of us. But this time tell him you are running late and need to hurry to the airport!:joke:

Hubby will ride my :spyder:and I'll ride on the back - I like it! No backrest for me - feels like a rollercoaster:clap: (except for the time he did the burnout while I was on the back - would have been fun but I just wasn't prepared).

My wife and I have been riding/touring for almost 40 yrs. She loves the passenger accommodations now that I have added a backrest. She was fine with it before except for aggressive riding. I have been on the back while she is relearning and it is a nice pillion. Leg room is less in the back, but there are many options for road pegs so that the passenger can use the front pegs for a stretch.
