• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Parts for Changing oil

Hey everyone, my first post and just joining and I was wondering if there are anyone out there with an ST-S SE5 2013 that does there own oil changes. I have seen several video's, and have torque wrenches ready to use, but my issue is that I don't know of any parts or numbers needed. I really don't want to go thru a website unless I have to for the parts. Basically what I am trying to find out is if there are other parts that will still work. For example, an O ring is needed for a new oil filter but FRAM already has the O ring on the filter. I have already found out that instead of using the 0w40 oil I can use 5w40. I was told by the custom bike shop that the filter needed is a HIFLO but I cant see anything dealing with model or part number. Lastly, I believe that I need to replace the engine filter as well as the oil filter at each oil change, is this correct, and if so does anyone know what part number to use? The nearest dealership to me is about 75 miles away and I really don't want to drive it there each time. (sadly no trailer available yet for use) Any advice or tips or any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance

You might want to contact BajaRon, a sponsor on SpyderLovers, for all your oil change needs. Pretty sure he can fix you right up.

I also think you can go to your dealer and get an oil change kit. Could be wrong on this one but seems like they do have a kit of all things needed.

Time to clear things up for you. First, as far as I know there is no Fram filter for this engine. It can't have the o-ring attached, because the o-ring goes on the cover, not the filter like it would with a spin-on. The HiFlo filters can be used, but they do not technically meet the BRP specs for the extended oil change intervals. I use them on my SM. They are available from BajaRon on the SpyderLovers home page. BRP has reinforced their filters and lengthened the trans filter. Those filters and the extended cover are only available from Spyder dealer. The oil change takes less than 5 qt of 5W40 or 10W-40 blended or full synthetic motorcycle oil. The specs are in your manual. It also requires an engine oil filter at every oil change interval, plus a transmission filter at every change if you have an SE. Early manuals may not show this. There is an O-ring for each filter. They can often be reused, but have spares in case one fails inspection. It also requires two different copper (or aluminum) crush washers. They can often be reused a few times if not too compressed and unscratched or undamaged. Again, be sure to have spares. These parts are available from BajaRon or from a dealer. BRP sells full oil change kits with everything you need. The parts are also sold separately. BajaRon can do much the same with filter/seal kits and selling you Amsoil separately. The oil tank screen should be cleaned at 600 miles and periodically thereafter. That will require a new Oetiker clamp or a suitable worm clamp as a substitute. The o-ring usually survives, and is the same as the dipstick, but it pays to have a spare.

There you go...!!

Now you have the whole story. I get the kits online from ebay free shipping delivered to my door. BRP's XPS semi synthetic blend. They run $55.00/ 65.00 depending..good luck and do one filter at a time. The cover screws are different lengths and if mixed can bottom out...
