Part number discrepency on grommets

I have a 2011 RT Limited. I installed the ESI Brightside LEDs, HMT Brake light and LED mud flaps. All works well and I am very happy with the results except for a minor issue I ran into when removing the Middle and Top Side Panels. Behind the Top Side Panel are two rubber grommets. One was missing so when putting all back together I used one from the Middle Side Panel since it would be easy to replace.

When I went out to the BRP On-Line parts store to order a replacement I found out according to the 2011 parts list the Middle Side Panel should be using a "Grommet Assembly" part number 705005055. This uses a rubber grommet with a metal plate overlay. Looks to be a better design to keep from loosing grommets. However, the actual grommet used on my bike, "Oval Washer" as described in part list, uses part number 705005156 which is the number used in the 2010 model. According to the parts list the 2011 models still use the 70500516 Oval Washer for the Top Side Panel.

So I am a little confused. Are there different versions of 2011 Spyders that use the new and old versions of the "Oval Washer" for the Middle Side Panel?

I need to order grommets so I guess I'll order the 2010 grommets for my 2011 bike. :dontknow:

Sure sounds like there are different versions. My Viper Red 2011 has the old rubber grommets, too.

Grommets "Oval Washers"

Reviving an old thread here but I ran into this Grommet part number discrepancy today.

I had somehow lost a grommet on the (left) Top Side Panel. The parts diagram said this was "Oval Washer #705005156" I got one from our dealer only to find it was too big. The hole for this grommet is 0.78" long and the prescribed grommet is 0.9" long. It would not fit and I tried and tried. "Grommet B" in the picture.

Removing one of the other "Oval Washers" that actually fits I found it is indeed 0.78".

Pictures show the difference. All the holes are the same size and require a 0.78" washer.

The correct part number at least for a 2011 RT is: "Oval Washer #705000321"

Hope this helps save someone a bit of aggravation.

There is a service bulletin on this issue. Those with the earlier versions (at least those with the 2011 RT) should be able to have the grommets replaced by the dealer. Warranty campaign 2011-0008, warranty bulletin 2011-7.
