• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Parking Brake Failure Again !!

it was a beautiful day yesterday and I got out for an early morning ride. Ended up doing about 125 miles and as always the RT performed flawlessly. I decided to fill up before I went home and after pulling into the station and hitting the parking brake button I got the orange screen saying " Parking Brake Failure". I immediately knew by the sounds of things that the cable had come off the front pulley again. I've already had the dealer install the updated spring on the rear brake but ..... So I went home, stripped the right side down and finished what I had attempted to do before which was drilling a hole in the pulley and zip-tie the cable to it so it can't come off then lubricate the cable as best as possible. The pulley is hardened steel and you need a good drill bit (which was my problem last time). I got this idea here on Spyderlovers from another post I saw a while back but I thought I would put it out again in the event someone is running into this problem.

Good idea and an easy fix. Owning a sm5 gives me the option of just leaving it in gear, although on a steep incline I will use the parking brake. So far no problems.

Why is your cable coming off the pulley in the first place? Is this a common thing? If the cable does come off I guess you are still able to move your bike but the parking brake just doesn't engage, correct? If this is a common occurance why doesn't BRP install some kind of clip to hold the cable in its track?

Hate to hear "again"..!!

this can only mean it was not repaired correctly the first time. If it is common then they should come up with a solution but the you have...congrats..!! also have an sm5 but will help others..!! :2thumbs:

The stronger spring should have cured it, but there are a couple of other things that can cause it. Most common is failure of the cable to retract. Lubing the cable, especially the vinyl covering at the sheath ends, should help. Inspect that vinyl covering to be sure it isn't torn or loose, interfering with its return into the sheath. Be sure the brake is properly adjusted, so the vinyl doesn't travel outside the sheath. Make sure both ends of the sheath are clean, and that the drums rotate freely. Brake dust can inhibit the rear drum.
