• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Paint ---- again.

I know it's been bounced around on here before, and will be again, but, search as I may, I can't find the data that I know I've seen, months ago. Soooo, one more time; Where do I look to duplicate Spyder paint? I think I read that Dupli Color was the best bet, but not sure. In my case, I'm looking for the silver for my Full Moon bike. Getting close to paint time on some of the re-modeled body work. Have to mold new panels to accomodate my shins and feet and re-located shifter, brake linkage, and oil tank on the one-off floor boards.
If I ever get this thing done, I'll try to post some pics. Meanwhile, I'm lovin the new riding position. Got my feet way farther forward than any of the after-market units that I've seen.

Thanks, guys. I've made hard copies, this time. Now, if I can just hang on to them long enough to get some paint here.

hey dick

i'm very interested in your project. can't wait to see it. it's just what the gs,rs needs.

Well, the two sugestions above are good, but I'm not having much luck with either. Was kind of hoping to find some rattle can stuff that'd do the trick. Seems US Paint doesn't offer the rattle cans, and my search of Color Rite turns up a no-show for the Spyder. Still seems to me that someone in here spoke about one of the more prominent suppliers (Dupli Color, maybe?) offering the right silver for the Full Moon edition. Any comments?

hey dick

better auto parts stores can match the paint, by the code number, and make up spray cans. i've done this a few times. it's usually twenty something a can.my local napa does this now.

Well, heck, Chain Yanker, Y'all just woke me up! Uh, only part-way, it seems, cuzz I went and got the head-banger for that first sentence, and now I can't get the cursor on the other side of him, and can't delete him, either! So, I'll just let him ryde, I guess. Anyhow, I remember going right up here in town and ordering up a special can at the local Fisher Parts store a couple of years ago. Guess I'll do it again, eh?

The project is well over a year old, now, and not nearly done, but I expect to get the left side done a lot sooner and easier than the right. Once the new farings are done, the next step will be to get my wife's feet down and forward a bit, then get the arm rests up there where they'll be useable for her. Then there's the suspension mods, the LED's that she bought me for Christmas, last year, and, and ,and -------.

preview

hey dick, how about a little preview of your project so far? i'm intrigued.

If I can nail my son down for a lesson on posting some pics, I'll take a few of the floor-boards and the right side fairing that's replacing the factory one. The boards are finished, as are the re-located brake and shifter, but the fairing is in as-cast, as-bondo'd condition, but otherwise finished as to final form.
And, BTW, it's working far beyond my expectations. I was worried about hot running, since I've been riding without that fairing in place for over a year, now, but, a nice, long 130 mile ride, yesterday, (two-up) left me with a big grin on my face and a good feeling of relief. I had used the original as a basis for forming the general shape in fiber glass, wrapped in food wrap for a form, then added to it, to fill in to compensate for moving the rear of the thing outboard to clear my floor-board. Resulted in the outlet being at least double in air volumn/capacity, and I changed the two inlets in front to direct air into the radiator, instead of by-passing it, like the factory one. So----- as of yesterday, I found that I could put my hand down there outside the air outlet, going downhill at as low as 20 mph and feel the affect of air rushing through the rad. Best indicator was the temp gauge. With ambients around 75-80 F, I've dropped at least one, maybe two, bars of temp, showing on the gauge. Rode most of the time with only two bars showing, and got up to four, while idling at stop-lights, or slow-poking on city streets. Soon as I hit 5th, and got back up to 50, she dropped back to two bars. Interesting, that we rode up through Smuggler's Notch, and were in 1st and 2nd, in steep going for quite a while (temps down to 68), and the gauge only went up to four bars.
Looks like I might have blundered onto something, this time!:D Ain't a-goin tuh mess with it no more, me says.
Oh, BTW, you know that fried ankle and foot, going on around your loafers? Gone!:D
Later,
DW
