I know many folks have used other rear tires than the Stock ones. Is anyone getting more than 12 - 15,000 miles on them?

What brand?
What is the Rating?
How many Miles have you gone?
Overall review?

Dissapointed that I didn't get any feedback on this

I have heard many people have installed the Kumho tire. But they seem to be getting the same amout of wear on them as the stock tire, 12 - 15,000 miles. I thought I would try something different.
I installed the Falken ZIEX ZE-512 91v tire. So far with 700 miles on it, I like it. It is a nice grippy tire with Good traction, not too loud. It is considered a high performace tire, rated up to 148MPH. I am only running 35PSI which is far below the recommend 55PSI. It has a nice ride, not to hard.

I will see how this one holds out. I would like to get 20 -25,000 miles out of a rear tire, but I know that is difficult with high performance tires. The cost was not that bad, $85.00.

I had a Goodrich G-Force that I really liked but sold the bike before I had more than 800 miles on it. Long term? Can't say.

So...you only got 800 miles out of that tire! No wonder you sold your Spyder!!! :roflblack: (I'm the funniest guy in my head!)

I have the Kumho tire and only have gotten about 15,000 on it but I still consider that a steal as the tire plus installation was still half the cost of OEM tire before installation. So I basically can get two tires for the price of one or 30,000 miles out of two Kumho tires for the same price at 15,000 on one OEM tire. Not that bad when you think about it.

I have the Toyo T1R- V rated. Cannot tell about the mileage yet, since I only have about 500 miles on it. However; I can tell you that the traction and handling is superb (with 35 psi), especially on wet pavement. Much better ride than the stock tire. I think the price was around $125.00. Very pleased with it.

Do you have to go to the dealer to have the new rear tire installed? I found a tire shop that will do the fronts, they put on my black powder coated rims for me, but they said they would not touch the rear tire.

A tire shop did the mounting for me I had to take the rim in. They won't remove the wheel from the bike. Its hard to find one that will ballance it, due to the small diameter hub.

Right now I have 7K on my Toyo and it still looks new. I'm not sure how many miles I'll get out of it but it has the deepest tread of any I've tried so far.

I had the Kuhmo installed on mine at around 15K miles... I have only 7K miles on the tire so far, but it still looks great. Based on what I see so far I'd say it would easily exceed 15K and probably exceed 20K before it needs to be changed again... which I am thrilled about. Of course my stock tire looked like it could go almost 20K too but I didn't want to risk it with my cross-country trip coming up, so I opted to change it out early.

One wouldn't think it should be a big deal putting a non stock tire on a bike. Bike shops do it all the time on motorcycles.

I'll have to have my dealer change the tires on the Spyder. I don't do that stuff. Haven't asked yet about if they would mount something other than a stock tire. If the tire fits the rim I wouldn't think there should be a big deal about this.

But how much you want to bet that dealers will dig in their heels about mounting anything other than stock tires? Has anyone out there asked a dealer about doing this?

My dealer would mount anything that was the proper size. A quote.

Well, thanks. This is good to know. I haven't been paying attention to the various non stock tires mentioned so far. Now I will!!
