I left Lake George late Sunday morning. I had wanted to go earlier, but i had coffee the night before and didn't even get to sleep until 2am. Going to Niagara Falls, I decided to take the scenic route at least half way and went north for a bit then rode through the Adirondacks before catching I-90 at Rome. $12.50 toll!!
At Niagara Falls I had a room at the Comfort Inn. I followed my map app directions and it took me right there, but I couldn't get around the corner because there was some festival going on and they had many streets closed off. I finally stopped where a cop was parked at one of the barricades. He got out of his car and gave me directions. He said he really liked the Spyder; I said he should get one, but he said he already has a Harley. Oh, well.
The hotel was right across the street from the state park visitor center. So I could leave my Spyder at the hotel and walk it. To get to all the sights I got a $2 all-day trolly pass, so it was really easy. I rode on the Maid-of-the-Mist, got some pics, got wet. The Falls are truly magnificent to see. The power, danger, beauty are amazing. That one checked off the bucket list! I had hoped to spend two nights at the Comfort Inn, but could only get the room for one night. At least I didn't have to ryde to do the sightseeing.
Late in the afternoon I got geared-up again and rode to a Red Roof Inn on the south edge of the Buffalo area. It had good ratings on Trip Advisor, and it turned out to be a good choice. The trade off for the lower price is no in-room coffee. But I figured that's OK since I have my electric kettle and some instant coffee with me. Then, this morning I realize I have no cup in which to make the coffee!!
Duh!
So I got on down the road toward PA on I-90. It seems you can't ride an interstate highway in New York that's not a toll road. As if their gas tax wasn't high enough to cover the costs. But on the up-side, there are service areas every 30-50 miles and they are very nice. So I managed to get some breakfast and coffee before I had to go too far. Right inside PA I stopped at their visitor center to get another caffeine dose, and visited with the attendant there. He was a good representative for his state and I learned that the Appalachians in Pennsylvania are more correctly called the Alleghenies. Go figure!
Just before Cleveland I turned south on I-271, then on to i-71 to Columbus, which was where I had originally planned on stopping. But I was feeling good, so I got pushed on to Dayton. I had got on i-70 at Columbus and that's my yellow brick road that will lead me home to Kansas. I know that's not entirely right, but I left my ruby slippers at home, and it's all I got.
