• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Had the check engine light come on this afternoon while I was at the lake followed by an over heat warning. Got some great advice online at this site about the heater fan fuse and relay. Didn't get it on time, no big deal, so ended up driving back to the city to see the dealer. the hooked it up, checked out the relay. Not that. Checked the fuse. It was blown. Changed the fuse and sent me out the door free of charge. So I went home for the late afternoon. Was heading out the lake this evening, and the check engine light came on. Its been cool here so didn't get the over heat. Ended up turning around and coming back home for the night. Going to bring the bike back to the dealer in the morning. I checked the fuses, same fuse blown. Why does it keep blowing. Any idea what it could be??? I am on holidays and this is pissing me off. 2012 RTs with 5700 km. SM5.

As I said in your previous thread...debris in fan, broken fan blade, bad fan bearing, bad fan motor are all possibilities. So is damaged wiring or a short circuit...even from water in a connection. Unless you have some experience and some testing equipment, as well as a wiring diagram, it is best for the dealer to check things out. Check the fan for debris and to see if the blade will turn by hand first. You can reach in from the back side vent. Be sure the radiator has cooled down before you do so, however.

yo are good....

So...went out to the garage....tried to turn the fan. You were right...wouldn't turn in either direction. I didn't force it but kind of turned it back and forth, and next thing I heard something fall out. Like a small stone. I was on some gravel road. small stretch, little less than a mile. I was taking it very slow, putting along in 1 st gear maybe 5 miles per hour. Could that have done it. Seems like a weird area to get a stone. I always keep the rear tire in the beaten path where the gravel is very fine almost like dust as opposed to gravel. The fan turns freely. I put a new fuse in. Going to take it for a burn, maybe let it idle warm until the fan kicks in. Any other thoughts? be back in a few minutes.

That would do it. I'm betting you are good to go if the fan motor runs now. On another note, time to check your coolant level. Unless the ambient temperature is very warm, or you have been riding very slowly, idling excessively, or riding a long time at moderate speeds in warm weather, the fan should not need to come on very often.

That will do it..!!

:popcorn: are you back yet..?? That would be the most probable. Not likely to be wiring or short. Things are tight around there and a paper napkin or plastic bag or road dirt can lock things up. Fan won't turn fuse blows. Bees and mud dobbers like to build nest there..well you found the problem sadly the shop didn't check it before the sent you on your way..I always want to know why..and I'm not two..!! :roflblack:

FIXED

Sorry everyone, took me a while to get back. I love to ride so no such thing as a short trip. Problem corrected. A very small stone in the fan. Fan is running like normal. I will check the coolant level tomorrow. Don't think it will be a problem. The temperature today was 68 to 71 F. My driving after I diagnosed a fan problem was all highway, at speeds around 130 to 140 km, no stopping, straight from the lake to the dealer. The bike temp never reached higher than half way on the gauge. Tonight was a cool night, the gauge was at 1/4. thanks for all the help today, saved me a lot of valuable time tomorrow. The other good thing that came out of it was my wife now has an appreciation for this website as well.

I wonder if any of the spyder techs from the dealer come to this website to learn a thing or two? We should recommend that the visit SL.com

Glad to hear you got the problem solved. It's great when it turns out to be something that is easy to fix.

If they're anything like snowmobile mechanics, they get completely pissed off the second you mention "the internet"

Just thought it would be a good idea since so much gets solved here on the forum. In some cases the Ryder get the info here to help the dealer solve the issue.
