• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

oil plug again

2011rts oil plug thead on engine it self is stripped. not the plug how do I fix thread on motor

NAPA, Sells over size oil plugs that will re cut the threads, and that plug will take the place of the old plug.
I had the misfortune to use them a few times over the years.

Yup... any auto parts store has them... As long as you know the size and thread of the one in the spyder. Had to use one on the wife's Malibu... I always change our oil, but had to have a gasket replaced a few months back... they had to drain the oil to do it. Must have had some kid put the plug back in... couldn't even get it out with vice grips... had to use a pipe and special bolt extractors... Did the trick but the pan is messed up. Freaking dealers pay idiots to do oil changes.

In my younger days i real men didn't use a torque wrench, :banghead: So i would tighten down a bolt till it stripped then back off a quarter turn.:gaah:

EXACTLY! That's the only way you get consistency!

Works for oil filters, light bulbs and valve stems too!

My kind of guy!

In the old days a friend of mine taught me never to hold the racket at the end of the handle when doing the final few tightens. If you hold the racket handle up by the socket, close to the top, you will never over tighten. A bolt never came lose on me........... My torque wrench.

HELICOIL ?

That self-taping drain plug is a great idea. But, being an old (underline OLD) ALFA ROMEO and aircraft mechanic, I've always had trouble with steel threads going into an aluminum pan, head, or block. I've stripped a lot of 'em, over the years, I'm ashamed to say. The correct size helicoil with a smaller drain plug and crush washer has always saved the day for me, though.
So, there's another idea.
Take care,
CapNCrunch
P.S. Oh, yeah .... and a TORQUE WRENCH!
