• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Oil Leak.

Changed oil on the RT-S SE5 friday and have had a leak since. Just now found it. Coming from the transmission filter cover. So the question is when I take the filter cover off how much oil can I expect to run out? Just what's in the filter and cover or do I need to drain the oil tank?:gaah:

You will lose some oil, but most of it will remain in the tank. If you drain the engine sump first, you will lose less. I doubt you will lose as much as a quart, but that's a wild guess. You probably damaged the cover O-ring during the installation. Be sure to have a new one ready. If you lightly lubricate the O-ring with clean oil or O-ring lube before putting it on the cover, it will be less likely to be damaged. Be sure to tighten the bolts evenly, alternating as you screw them down...then torque them properly. If you collect and measure the oil you lose, you can just add that much back to the tank and be pretty close.

I removed the the cover and I would guess not more than 1/4 quart ran out. I didn't measure but not that much to clean up. Did not have extra O ring so cleaned up this one, filter cover and replaced. No more leak. I must not have had it clean the first time.
Thanks for the help.

Glad to hear your problem resolved fairly easily. Was there noticable dirt or foreign material on the O-Ring or mating surface areas? Even with some dirt (NOT RECOMMENDED) the O-Ring will usually seal. If not, it is highly likely that (as Scotty said) you may have tightened one bolt down too far early in the assembly process on the filter cover. Again, like Scotty said, you want to tighten sequentially so you get even pressure around the circumferance of the O-Ring.

Just a learning experience. You are now a better mechanic than you were just a few days ago! :ohyea:
