• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Noob Question on Garmin ZUMO 660

What are the advantages of the Garmin Zumo 660 versus using your own GPS?

I am rethinking my original decision to buy an RT Ltd and may now go with RTS. The Garmin is one of the biggest advantages of the RTL, IMHO.

Thanks.:helpsmilie:

HI, I just got a new "factory reconditioned" Zumo 660 from EBAY and mounted it on my RT. Two advantages it is ALOT CHEAPER!! Also, you can mount it where you want it.

Advantage of the BRP integrated Garmin

I bought the unit that came from BRP for my 2010 RT-S PE. I have had this for over 3 years, 32k miles. The unit comes with the mount to connect directly into the RT-S sound/control system. The advantage to me is that I can use the Bluetooth function in the Garmin to connect my smart phone thru my Garmin and make and take calls thru my J&M headset helmet system. I have one system for hearing and talking all radio, XM, iPod, CB, Garmin and phone functions in my helmet. It is a nice integration, and the dealer installed it. It also allows for the audio turn-by-turn directions to come directly into my helmet. This is not a function I use. I have my Garmin muted.

What is becoming a concern is that Garmin has been advancing their technology. My 3 year old Zumo 660 is now lacking new features that I have on my new Nuvi 2560 in my car. Features that I have become rather attached to... But the Zumo has not been updated and, even if it did, not sure when the new Zumo would be available with the connector that I believe is unique to the BRP model. So I am feeling stuck.

I have suggested to BRP that they should find a way for us to enjoy the latest Garmin technology with the Spyder integration at a competitive market price. No response yet.

I doubt that this is a high priority area for BRP.

If you like the elegance of a very integrated system with an OEM look, and don't mind paying more to get it, go with the BRP solution. It is very well interated. If you like to fiddle around and do your own integration, and save the money. Don't go with the BRP solution.

Just an FYI the zumo connector is not unique to BRP, it a standard Garmin Zumo 660 with can am splash screen, spyder icon and dealers per-loaded.
The zumo normally cost more because of there water proofing and motorcycle status/marketing, but its still a great product.
