• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Well i'm new here. Riding a goldwing 1800 now but have some health issues, wife says we should look into the Spyder roadster. So here i am trying to find out all i can. Been riding 53 yrs. only had one three wheeler
back in 70's vw trike.Didn't like it all that much.

Good timing, Trell. You'll find some very recent comparisons of the Spyder to a GW trike and others who have made comparisons to a 2-wheeler. There should be plenty of good reading. And ... (drum roll please) ... :welcome:

:congrats: Beleave me the Spyder rides 100% better and safer than the VW, There Not even in the same league.

Having gone through three Wings and an Ultra Classic, my :spyder2: RT-S is, BY FAR, the finest touring machine I've ever owned. Good luck in your research and I wish you well, my friend!

one of the reasons i bought a :spyder2: was that it had an available semi-automatic transmission. over the years i have dislocated both knees a few times and football and some of my hobbies weren't too nice to my body. now i randomly have severe problems with wrists, ankles, knees and elbows. with the SE5 i only have to have 1 wrist and ankle working so that suits me fine! if i had to have all 4 working it would really limit my ryde time.

the ride is smooth, the power is there, and i don't have to support the dang thing every time the light changes before i can get to it :ohyea:

if you choose the RS over an RT there are also several windshield option so you can decide how much wind you feel (i chose sport/touring).

As said earlier, go test drive the RS and then the RT. When I did it in that order and liked the RS, after riding the RT i no longer wanted the RS. I also liked the SE5 trans, push button shifting, because it just added to the comfort alittle bit more.

Good luck. :2thumbs:

:welcome: I agree with what was said above. Don't judge the Spyder by your previous VW trike experience. Nothing, and I mean nothing, is the same. I hope you can get out and do a couple of extended demo rides real soon. That will show you the difference. Remember, after the Goldwing, there will be a lot of adjustments to make. Don't judge by your first test ride. It takes a little while to get used to three wheels, the power steering, and the higher rpm power curve. I think you're gonna like it.

TRELL, I triked my '02 Wing in '05 with a Motor Trike kit and love it. I just bought a RT-S SE5 (paddle shift) and it is a hoot...I have very few miles on it, but I think it is a keeper. The Spyder is very different from the Wing trike. If health issues are a concern as you mention, I think the RT is more comfortable than the RS for touring or long day trips. The RS is a more sporty ride and sure serves that purpose.

Demos do little for me. I have to ride a machine 500+ miles before I know it fits my ride requirements...however, I adapt quickly.

You do not say what year or mileage you have on your Wing, but you should investigate triking it also. There are thousands of Wing trikes out here and 98% of us love them. A number of Spyderlovers have owned (or still own) GL1800 Wings and love both machines.

You will have a lot of enjoyment shopping for your new ride. Good luck with your choice.

Trell, welcome to the spyder family and enjoy the spiderlovers site -- you will learned a ton of info and meet new friends. :2thumbs:
