There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Newbie to Can Ams but not to Motorcycles in general :)

Hey all, I figured I would sign up on here since I will be picking up my first can am tonight from a dealership. (2008 RS yellow). This isnt my first motorcycle but it is my first can am. I know enough about the can ams to get one just not in modifying them so that will take me a little bit.
I am trading in a 2009 Silver Harley Sportster 883 Low slightly modified reluctantly to be honest but its something I have to do if I still want to enjoy riding. In 2009 a month after i got the HD I was rear ended in my little truck i had and caused me to have on going neck and shoulder problems. 3 years later i am 80% better but still cannot manuever the bike at a stand still but I can at least ride it which is an improvement. For 1 1/2 years I had not sat on the bike but maybe once a year due to the flare ups i was having so I decided it was time to let someone else take advantage of my wonderful harley that only has 3,900 miles on it. (most were put on the bike before my symptoms kicked in and had me bed ridden). I was leaning in the direction of making it a trike if i could not sell it and i came across the can am at one heck of deal at the dealership I bought my truck at.
So starts a new chapter in my life with a new bike which I am excited to have :) The boyfriend rides an R1 but has already fallen in love with the can am after he test rode it haha

welcome

welcome in Spyderland, you are gonna love it here and on a Spyder even more,
this time next year you either have a Spyder rider boyfriend or your boyfriend will get a Spyder - :shemademe_smilie:

I have a feeling on the long hauls the can am will be taken and the R1 left at home haha and there is no complaint from me there! I have to admit though I have a friend who has a pretty nasty can am rs performance wise but I know it still wouldnt be able to beat an R1 but as you said it beats it on trunk space! :D Heck even my harley did with its saddle bags haha

:welcome:
Don't know how many miles you've put on a Spyder but it's nothing like riding a bike and a lot more like riding a 4-wheeler. If you get that in your head to start with it will be a much better transition for you. Took me about 200 miles to figure that one out back in 2007 :doorag:

hardheaded

took me about a thousand miles to get it through my head. (the wife says I'm hard headed so I guess she's right). The Spyder is a great ride. Enjoy. take your time and get used to it, you'll love it.

NEWBIE

:welcome:, My girlfriend DEANNA777, was in the same boat as you except for the accident.....She says it was the best decision of her life , not including ME .......:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::agree:.......Good luck you will love your Spyder...Mike

PIX n THINGS

don't be surprised when you notice that people are taking pix of you on the cell-phones from the sidewalks, cars, etc... don't be surprised when you notice on coming traffic and the people in those cars/trucks are pointing at you, and don't be surprised when you stop for gas that a small crowd of 1 or more circle you and start asking questions about your SPYD3R.... it all comes with owning the best ryde around...

enjoy, and keep the rubber side down...

Two Weeks In, Myself

I've been on one for two weeks now. My other "less-than-four-wheel" vehicle is an Ultra Classic. Gee, I hope I remember to put my feet down at the traffic light the next time I ride it!

You'll love the Spyder, but listen to all of the advice about allowing yourself to get used to it. My wife took to it quicker than I did because she had never ridden a motorcycle. Remember, on a Spyder, leaning into a curve does not equal staying on the road. Steer it.

Enjoy the adrenaline rushes...and the attention.

very true

same here, took me two weekends to get my head around not having a break on a bar but fell in love with SE shifting immediately, so far i beat all my bike budies in corners 100% ( well i know, i ride her hard but she takes it well ) , well almost all of them on the road - yeah, i am a no fear kinda lunatic but i wouldnt on circuit obviously because of Spyder limited top speed however, when you need to break, you hit the pedal with all your power and beast stops - cant do that on a two wheeler without bruises though
For me has Spyder one obvious disadvantage - once you stuck in a traffic - you are stuck in a traffic, no way to fiddle out in between the cars

Welcome to our family!  :ohyea:
Can I borrow the car tonight?? :roflblack:
Lamont is; as usual, correct.:firstplace:
Try to think of it more like an ATV as far as it's handling and ride and it'll help make the transition easier!

Wow thank you for all the welcomes and advice :) I went and picked up the spyder last night after finalizing the insurance and getting the loan check, so i started at 4pm and finally got it home by 7pm hah. I had the BF ride the harley up so i could get everything else done and met him there, so he rode it home and i think thats his new favorite toy lol

Welcome aboard! and best of luck with your new toy:clap: Did you purchase in de?

I did buy it in delaware, actually it was at Toyota World in Newark and they actually get a lot of spyders as trades, and they also have a hand in a motorcycle dealer down south in Dover. I got it for a really good deal because i think they wanted it gone before the end of the year so they didnt have to list it in their inventory for next year.

Ive ridden four wheelers before but i plan on keeping it in the development and working with it there before I take it out on the road, im not as brave as my boyfriend to just jump on it and go.

Congratulations and welcome. :)

There's a small group on Facebook called Mid Del-Mar Spyder Rides you can see it here: http://www.facebook.com/MidDelMarSpyderRides?ref=ts&fref=ts

I think I have to raise my hand in that staring at spyders lol :opps: but then again I always wanted one so that's probably why i would always point them out haha

:congrats:On the Spyder!! Hope you enjoy yours as much as we have. One of the things that has helped most was this collection of wisdom: http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/...t-Do-s-and-Do-Nots-quot-for-new-Spyder-owners . If you're used to a Harley, remember the Spyder likes to spin. ;) You've found the best site with the most info on your Spyder, IMO. :welcome:

Thanks for the info!
