There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Newbie question about K&N Air filter

I just bought a K&N drop in Air filter for my 09 RS SE5, I see alot of talk about having to run the bike for 15 minutes when a new performance muffler is installed and I assume that is for the ECU to make injector adjustments. Well since the muffler affects air out, would that also need to be done with a free/increased flow air filter??
Been ridin' for 30 plus years, only 2 weeks with my Spyder.
Would make sense to me, but then I am new to the Spyder.
Thanks in advance,
Ike

:welcome:

I let mine idle for a while after I put it in, to make sure everything still seemed good to go before buttoning the tupperware back up. I don't think I let it run for 15 minutes on this one though. I haven't had any issues with it since.

The bike will remap with a new pipe on...the instructions for the hindle are clear about this. They also recommend disconnecting the battery, although many here say that makes no difference.

Regardless, I'd just put the filter in, let it idle for a while, then go for a ride...the bike will adjust over time regardless...I'll assume that the pipe makes a bigger difference than the air filter anyway...

The hindle adds 4 hp...the air filter likely adds the equivalency of a couple more too...

one of the main reasons for idling after installing a new muffler is to "condition" the packing of the muffler. When the muffler heats up it changes the packing so the muffler lasts longer. I think the 30 min cool down after a 15 min idle is also recommended. I did this but I am not sure if it will add any life to the hindle, I hope it does but don't know.

Any way :welcome: and enjoy.

+1 I think the installation instructions for the Hindle state that you do the idle and cooldown step to condition the muffler.

:agree:It's sometimes called seasoning, It also helps to stop discolouration very important if you have chrome pipes.
