New York times review

New York Times

Some will never understand. I have owned jeeps for years. As I am sure you all have seen "It's a jeep thing you wouldn't understand". Well "it's a Spyder thing and they don't understand"... :dontknow:

Typical Reporter -- let him have his 2 wheels -- I keep my spyder and have all the fun I could possibly imagine. Maybe he should have watched the instructional videos before he tried to ryde the spyder. :gaah:

Maybe if they tightened up the shocks and put in a sway-bar, he would sing a different tune...

Thanks for putting a smile on my face. :2thumbs:

The sad fact is one idiot like that who brings all of his preconceived notions to he party hurts potential sales more than we can imagine... New York City is pretty much the hub of disposable income up here and if folks are put off by his damning with vary faint praise, they're gonna go buy something else... :dontknow:

NY Times.....hee..hee

Yep, IMHO, they are laughable... Have you ever seen the NYTimes supporting anything that most Americans are in favor of???

Their circulation is in major decline, and for good reason. Just another example of their unpopular editorializing.. "Just sayin" ....Yea Spidie...Boo NYT... Len:lecturef_smilie:

Does anyone else wonder if his demo unit was running right? To say you need to hit 6500 rpm for the engine to respond is not the way my RT responds, nor does it rattle and roll around curves. Needing better shocks still doesn't explain what he describes. I hope this is not a repeat of the press release (maybe over a year ago) when Motorcycle Consumer News said they could not write an objective review because there were so many defects in their Spyder?

my opinion on the RT was not that great either the first time i rode one ... but i did like it a lot better the second time out ... :2thumbs:

I think he's almost bang on with the RT. The SE5 is sluggish and the handling is funky.:dontknow: Never tried a manual RT to see if it felt like it had some oomph.

Obviously he didn't know where the down shift paddle is if he was waiting to slow down to get to a lower gear. No wonder he thought it was sluggish. My opinion is that the author is sluggish.

Being out west I did not know the NYT was still in business. No one I know ever reads it. I admit it took me about a 1/2 hour to go from a 2 wheeler to the Spyder, but could not be happier.
A friend of mine and his wife on their Harley last Sunday, hit a patch of sand on a turn and went down. Before she could get the bike off of him he received a severe burn to his leg and spent 3 days in the hosp. He will be laid up for some time. We are both getting up in years and I hope he will start looking at a Spyder soon.:doorag:

I am no great knower of Spyder lore, but it seems to me that the Spyder (the RT in particular) got off to a rough start. It was a new concept that was pretty complex and obviously was not tested enough before it was released to the public and it took some very negative hits. It had flaws. These hits created a negative impression of the Spyder in the industry which translates to the rider communities. I think that stigma continues to dog the Spyder, even though it has developed pretty nicely. This idiot obviously had pre-conceived notions going in.

When I got mine I didn't know what to expect really (can't gleen much from a 20 minute test ride) and it was odd at first. Cornering was a little disappointing and I wondered if I had made a mistake. but I worked with it, learned what it wanted and now I love it. Its just a totally different kind of riding style.

The Spyder is NOT a sport bike; never will be. Anybody that expects it to perform like that is going to be disappointed. I liken it more to a spirited cruiser. Very spirited! And that is the kind of riding I do. So for me it's perfect.

And I agree, the NYT is an out of touch agenda filled piece of..... paper! Wouldn't use it to line my bird cage!

Just read your comments

Justin, I am not sure what RT SE5 you rode, but I have an RT SE5 and i can say without a doubt that it is far from sluggish. The semi auto works fantastically.

Has this reviewer actually ridden a motorcycle before? Here's his description of countersteering: "the rider pulls back on the left handlebar to turn right". No, that's totally wrong. You push the right handlebar to turn right. Yes, you can pull left to turn right, but it is (in my opinion) an unstable and unsafe way to steer a motorcycle.
