There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. BRP recommends tie down thru wheels. That is what I am thinking of for the front wheels but...

On the back, i have a trailer hitch. Here is the dilemma... hitch or rear wheel for rear tie-down?

Scotty, are you out there? ( I can already hear Scotty...the WHEEL, Keith, the WHEEL)

PS: Ramp/Door is 69"-70" wide...not as seemingly illustrated. And...my scale may be off just a bit.

I would say rear wheel would be better

Wheel..!!

the hitch is tied to the swing arm thus suspended. The wheel is solid to the ground. This way the roadster's rear end won't hop around..isn't some of the furniture in the way..?? :roflblack:

I too have a toy hauler and have found that the bike was moving around back there. From your picture it looks like you do not have a separate garage area, so I can see it would be a little tight. I just installed the super clamps for spyders so I now drive in instead of backing in (have tried both ways) I tie the rear wheel down but do all I can do it was always moving. If this works I shall be a happy camper . Watch the video on the super clamps. I always leave the bike in neutral with the brake.

The swingarm is actually not suspended. It is on the same side of the spring as the wheel, so it is unsprung. It does move a bit, however, and the towing weight limit is restricted to 400 pounds, so it may nt have the strength needed to do the job in extreme circumstances, like evasive maneuvers or an accident.

OK, you heard me, so why didn't you listen? :roflblack: Seriously, the wheel is best, but if it cannot be used the hitch would be the best substitute. It will put a lot more stress than towing a trailer onto the hitch, however, so the hitch and the swingarm bearing should be checked more frequently for wear. The wheels are a "no brainer", but anywhere else offers some complications. If you use the Superclamps, I'd still tie the rear, but I'd worry less about using the hitch.

I'd be concerned about using the hitch since it's out on the end of the bike where the load forces could be magnified and transferred back to your :spyder2: Something about fulcrum points and levers comes to mind...
The wheel is by far the best choice...

@Chupaca, sofas/beds fold up to the wall.

@Scotty and all, rear wheel it is. I will be installing tie downs (3x 6000#) in line with wheels, not using those provide by manufacturer (1200# set wide to the side, tho may use them for side-to-side stability). In neutral w/ brake. Note: because of layout, it must be backed in.

Tks to all for input.

Don't worry about backing it in, thats how I have to do it in mine and there are no issues. Notice D-ring location in front of the wheels. One is also location behind rear wheel.

Always go through wheels to tie down but be careful of valve stem location (keep the strap away from it) and do not go through the rear sprocket. Feed the strap between sprocket and rim. If you have a manual just leave it in gear, otherwise set your PB.

Question:
Why in Neutral? Why not use Park? :dontknow:
Sorry... That was 2 questions!
Bob: Park? I have a Park setting (other than leaving in gear and setting parking brake)?

Randy: Wheel, not sprocket/avoid valve stem.:2thumbs: SE5...PB :2thumbs:

Not sure where your wide-set tiedowns are, but if they are behind the back edge of the wheel they should work fine. I cross tie the rear of the Spyder in the trailer. I use two soft-ties looped together (with a sleeve made from a microfiber towel to protect the wheel), and attach the left side of the soft-tie to the right tie-down, and vice versa. Tighten the straps and things stay put nicely. 1200# rings should hold just fine, although I tend to prefer the higher rated rings, just like you.
