• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

First test drive, now you have to be ready for that. I was all over the road. Does not drive like a Goldwing

So beside that; what else did you think?
A nice and relaxed grip on the bars helps a lot. Just about everybody says the same thing after the first attempt... :yikes:
I was SURE that I had just made the biggest and most expensive mistake EVER! :gaah:
Then I calmed down and kind of let the bike take ME down the road; rather than me trying to force it exactly where I wanted...
..."And they lived happily ever after!" ;)

What Bob D. says---plus I will add that if you are familiar with two wheels there is a learning curve of 500-1500 miles to unlearn a lot of the two wheel things. I have been on 2 since 1965 and it took me 1500 miles to get comfortable with the :spyder2:. 80,000 miles later, I may have it figured out. :roflblack:

Time and practice..!!

and a positive attitude..it is not a goldwing, never was intended to be or for that matter compete with a goldwing. We do have a lot of ex-wingers, me included, ryding spyders and loving them. Keep going you'll see what we mean..!! :ohyea:

I too had the same problem ( at first) took bike back to dealer to have some questions about control answered. The mechanic told me bike was fine and to handle it like a fine woman, gentle on the bars was the key. 5200 miles later you can't get me off of it. Now I really like the ride and my:spyder2: you will too. be patient and enjoy the ride.

My wife and I are coming off a VFR800 set up for touring and I've ridden 2 wheels for the last 25 years. My first time on a Spyder was 2-3 months ago and the biggest problem I had was trying to lean it into the turns. After 20 minutes, I told myself to stop trying to ride it like a motorcycle and try to ride it more like a snowmobile. Once I did that, I had it nailed and it only took about 40 minutes. We've got a 1000 miles on our 2013 and like it more and more every time we take it out. We did consider a Gold Wing, but my wife liked the Spyder better because it did not lean. From a passenger perspective, the RT is equivlalent to the Gold Wing - without the leaning.

Keep your head and eyes up, look down the road and around the curves just like you did on the wing.Give it 2 or 3 thousand miles and you will be asking the wife, what was the name of that other bike we used to ride? The reason I know is because I still have my two wheeler which I like to ride but I like the spyder a whole better.I would not have said that for the first 2000 miles.Welcome to our world.

It really does get better !!

I've had my RT since May, took about 1000 miles then all of a sudden, I found the sweet spot. Now on the highway is a lot more enjoyable after I did what the experts on Spyder Lovers siad to do. Sit back and relax with the hands on lightly. WOW what a difference and now I'm loving it. Even after I get on the 2 wheeler for a while, I've got the Spyder figured out and I've got the fever. You will to. Safe Riding

I am also new to the :f_spider:. I found out to relax on the grips and put 17 or 18 PSI in the front tires will change your mind. I love my new :f_spider: now. And starting to plan trips for it.

Steering inputs for the Spyder are not the same as for a two-wheeler. For a two-wheeler, you use a technique called 'counter-steering', which means you steer slightly in the oposite direction that you want to turn. An example is that to turn right, you would nudge the handlebars slightly to the left to initiate a righthand lean. That lean then causes the righthand turn. This is physics and is how it works & all two-wheelers that lean use this technique regardless if the rider realizes it or not.

On the Spyder, as there is no leaning, you must turn the handlebars in the same direction you want to turn. Once your brain realizes the differences in control requirements, you'll make the adjustment and the ride will become what you expect. Think about how to make the turn instead of relying on your muscle-memory from all those miles on the Goldwing. Once learned, you're good to go.

I am 800 miles in and riding the :spyder2: is starting to feel like second nature. I posted on this board within my first 200 miles how terrified I felt on the interstate, now, it feels as though I am gliding. I have a 30 mile commute to work and I have ridden it about 5-6 times now. I have truly fallen in love with this thing. Couldn't be happier!

On my first demo ride a couple of months ago, I thought the spyder was very jittery. Then I rented one for a whole day and soon was much more relaxed. I plan to be an owner very soon, but first I have to figure out whether the differences between the 2012 and 2013 models are significant enough to justify the price.

you might wait for the changes (if any) in the 2014's. Announcements should be made in September I think.

Yes, I thought of that too and it is making me crazy. I live in the North East and was hoping to be on a Spyder in time for that event in the Adirondacks. That is the problem with finally making my decision this time of year. But you are right and I may have to stay on 2 wheels a while longer.
