New Spyder owner

After watching this site for several months I just bought a 2009 Spyder GS, 4500 miles-thank you all a very active site. I have been riding motorcycles for over 50 years but the Spyder is new to me. . A few questions. 1. I needed to get at the battery terminals to put in a cord to charge the battery. The side panels that have the Spyder logo I have them loose but did not know how to pull the top rubber plugs(bolt like) that hold the top section on-do they pull out? 2. I put on the stock exhaust the Voodoo was too loud. I did not have a clamp to connect the stock exhaust to the connector pipe-it looks like there is one. There are also 4 tabs, two on the muffler and two on the connector pipe-it looks like they pull together- a heavy spring? Does something connect these to pull them together. thanks Jim

I also have a 2009 GS SE5. In order to get to the battery, the side panels have to come off. If you are talking about the little black plugs under the seat, I take a flat head and just pop them up. When you put everything back together, they push back in similar to a thumb tack.

On my 2009 :spyder2:, I used to access the battery terminals by lifting up the seat and attaching the battery tender to the terminals.

Cannot offer advice on the muffler.

Thank you-Those black tabs-I did not want to break them off. My model is a Phantom. I do not know much about it-bought from private owner. I am going to take it into my dealer to get it checked out. It all seems to work and there are no warning lights. Now I have to learn how to ride it. I rode it 20 miles home. The images will take a little while. Jim

Those lock tabs are easy to remove. Pop the center section up and then the lower ring will pop out. If you should break one you can get them at the local autoparts store. As to the muffler, there should be a gasket and a clamp along with one or two springs. Mine came with one. The clamp you can also get at the autoparts store.
