• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

New Spyder owner from Broome (Australia)

Yesterday (24/03/2014) I took delivery of a 2008 Spyder RS SM5 with only 2,800km on the clock! I purchased this from the original selling dealer (Savage Motorcyles, Perth) and this is genuine mileage (kilometerage?) on a machine that's really never been used. Only options fitted are the matt black panels, mudguards, etc., and the Hindle exhaust.
I'm coming from a Harley Davidson, so this Spyder will take a bit of getting used to - low tech to high tech?
Anyhow, I'm in Perth for several weeks so will have time to become accustomed before the 2,300km home trip.

BTW: Savage Motorcycles assure me that any/all recalls and software updates on this machine have been attended to, but is there any way of checking?

Anything I should be watching out for on this 6 year old, but incredibly low mileage, machine?

They can print out a BUDS report of all updates , I believe. I think you can go on the BRP web site and see what was issued for that year. Have a safe and enjoyable ride home!

Welcome to the Family! :2thumbs:
Do you have another BRP dealer within a reasonable distance? (Assuming that Savage is also one...)
You could always have them run the V.I.N., and see what pops up!

Welcome to the best Spyder forum on the 'net. Due to the age, years and heat I would have all rubber hoses on the engine checked for being deteriorated. Good luck.

:welcome: and :congrats: on your ryde. Coincidentally, I saw Broome located on an Australia map on last nights news. I see its up there in Northern Australia. The 08 SM5 is a good machine. I started out with one like that.

Congrats on your new ride my advice would be to have all rubber tyres ect checked as well as have the iol changed due to the down time and lack of use. Sounds like u have made a great deal on your first spyder enjoy.
Mike

Welcome to SpyderLovers and the world of Spyders!

Have you checked out SpyderMates.com? Mike is who runs it. Check them out.

Welcome

You might also like to join Oz Spyderryder Forum there are fellow WA ryders there too. Between this forum and the Aussie ones you should find lots of useful info.

we are in Adelaide , South Australia. This years Australian Spyder Royale is to be held in SA. Last year we had one Perth Ryder ryde over to Lorne VIC for the event. Make sure you have been registered with BRP Aust, dealer should have done for you but not always, and you should receive an invite when they confirm location. You would have seen the dates on Spydermate, they are also on home page of Oz Spyderryders.com

Enjoy the Spyder, read the tips for new owners found on this site.

cheers Michele
