• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Hi All,
We picked up our new Red 2011 RTS SE5 last Saturday from the good folks in Hattiesburg. Did the 600mile oil change today. Thanks to all at this forum for the help with that and several other things. The oil change was definatley not the 15 min. Goldwing change that I'm used to. Getting the handling dialed in is a challenge too but we are getting there. Got our cup holders mounted today, waiting on a couple of parts and I'll have the GPS the way I want it. I had the dealer put the hitch and harness on it before we picked it up and I too am in need of getting my spyder plugged into my 4 pin flat plug trailer. I read somewhere that some folks are buying the plug, pins and crimping tool and making it themselves. Anyone done this? Also mama needs her armrests, she is not impressed with the Corbin design. Does anyone know of others in the works?

Thanx......Steve and Heidi from the Alabama gulf coast....;)

A 4-wire trailer requires more than merely buying the matching connector and installing it. The Spyder has a 6-wire+ system, but can function as a 5-wire. Solid state converters have not worked well. Up to now, most 4-wire trailer owners added separate turn signals to convert their trailers to 5-wire.

The easiest way out is to buy the 2011 Trailer Tongue Harness, which is 4-wire, and already has the diodes built in to allow the brake and signal wires to be connected together. Attach this harness to your trailer, or use it for the basis of an adapter, and you are in business. Be sure not to order the 2010 Trailer Tongue Harness. It is 5-wire (actually 6-wire+). You could order the Deutsch connector, pins, blank plugs, and crimper, and figure out how to connect the diodes to prevent backfeed, but the money you save will probably be more than made up for in lost time and cuss words. ;)

How is this being attatched to the trailer flat 4, is there some type of an adapter used as the 4 wire on trailer tongue harness has the same configuration at the 4 wire on my trailer, I take it that the 9 pin round end is female or is that another bullet connection that is used?

Thanks
AC

You have to cut and splice the correct wires. There is no plug-n-play adapter available that I know of. You would cut the trailer end off the tongue harness, then wire on a 4-pole connector to make an adapter, or wire directly to the trailer, either snipping off the existing connector, ot tying into the wires, ending up with dual connectors. I always use waterproof butt splices for these connections. Be aware that the wiring colors are not the same for the BRP harness and standard trailer wiring. I don't have a 2011 harnees or wiring diagram, so I can't tell you which color is what function, for sure. They would have to be attached to the Spyder and rung out.
