• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

New life adventure ?

Reno, Nevada is just a short drive right?? So no offense, I don't think I'll be skiing in the East:D:thumbup:

The new shaped skis are easy to turn. A lesson might help as body position is a bit different. Is the "76" the underfoot width?? That's very narrow, pressure on the front of the boot really works. We get good powder up here ( base elevation is 8200 ft.) so a wider ski is necessary. I've heard that it can get a bit icy in the N East???
All the best,
Lew L

These Elan's have a " Parabolic Rocker " profile ….125-76-103 mm. ….. Yes we have ICE - and lots of it :banghead: ….. Powder , occasionally, but it's mostly groomed hard pack …… Mike

Sooooooooo over the summer lots of changes in my life etc...….. Added a very large structural beam in my four car garage, this will add 16,000 lbs. of weight carrying ability :yes:...…... it will also negate my having to go up there and shovel it ( all 1400 sq.ft. ). Shoving it with a broken leg just wasn't going to be possible. Now that I won't have to do that I decided I needed some type of winter activity. I gave up and sold all my Snow-mobiles - four years ago, because I had no one to go with during the week, I stopped sno-mobiling on weekends a long time ago, due to the Idiots that were a Real safety threat...…. Since I had Down Hill skied since I was 21 ( 49 yrs ago - :roflblack:) I decided to return to it …. because I'm an old Fart now ( 71+ ) Sugarbush offered a week-day Season Pass for & 139.00 ..... They normally charge $85.00 per day ….. So it was a bargain I couldn't pass up :lecturef_smilie:.... I splurged on new Boots ( one-buckle rear entry ) and new super side-cut ski's … ( PS Level Nine.com has some great prices ) …. I did go out last week with my old stuff and managed not to hurt or Kill my-self :yes::yes: …..Yes it was challenging and I did fall 5 times ( 2 on purpose because - going off trail into the words :gaah: is something to avoid if at all possible ). We just got 8 inches of new snow, but it is very wet and heavy ( not ideal for Old folks ) …. Tomorrow will be in the 20's and they will have groomed, so I plan to Ski ….. please pray for me if you do that sort of thing …… I'll post how it goes ……. Thanks … Mike

so today was another attempt at re-learning the Downhill Ski thing … I skied a bit longer than on Day one ( 1 hr more ) … and my ski's are getting closer together, I'm getting better at linking carved turns ….. but I have a ways to go to get back to my best form ……. Mike :thumbup:

Damn Mike. I think I threw my back out just reading your post. Kudos for getting back into it again. Stay safe. Have fun. Hopefully meet some ladies? :2thumbs: Tom :spyder:

I like to go snowboarding with my kid, now he's middle aged, and worried about hurting himself. We are getting a couple feet of snow out here so it is going to be a good, early season. I repurposed my blue plaid leisure suit.
Have fun if you can afford to!

I gave all my equipment away ,gave up skiing .Now i have a summit 850 and play off trail ,put 3000 km on last year playing in the bush.

Good for you, Mike!

I'll be 66 yrs old in the next 10 days and I'm still downhill skiing too. When I lived down south, I gave it up for about 10 years. Now I've been back at it for about 7 years.

For me, the hardest part is building up the stamina/muscle strength to be able to ski more than a few runs before I'm tuckered out! (The best exercise for skiing is skiing.) That and getting the boots on in the first place. :gaah: Speaking of which, what boots did you end up buying? (One buckle, rear entry sounds nice!)

And I'm impressed that you're able to get up after a fall on your own <seriously>.

Take it slow, and enjoy the outdoors. Ski season coincides nicely with the off season for ryding.

:agree: during the year I don't live a sedentary lifestyle. I'm pretty active in various pursuits. Un-fortunately I won't exercise just for exercise sake :roflblack: ….. I'm taking it easy on the number of runs per day ( that prevents those accidents caused by fatigue alone ) …. I found the newest style of rear entry boots made by Alpina ( only two companies still make them - Head (?) I think being the other ) . They are best suited for the more relaxed type Skier, ( my racing days are loooooooooooooooooong behind me :roflblack: ) I bought them primarily for the ease of entry and they are wider than most which helps because I have a EEE foot width. I imagine you Ski at Hunter Mtn .?? When I lived and worked in NYC I skied a lot in New Jersey ( Day trips during the work week ) but also skied at Hunter frequently and that private Mtn (?) just north of Hunter...………… Keep at it, an Older gentleman told me 30 years ago - " Don't stop moving or Things will catch You :gaah: - :agree: ………………..Mike  ………..Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd I headed out this morning for more On-slope training

I'm guessing the Summit 850 is a Ski-Doo snowmobile ????? ………….. I sold all my machines 4 years ago - due to having to ride alone because I wouldn't go on weekends …. to many Crazy juveniles …………….. Mike

I used to ski at Hunter Mountain for many years, but no more. Too crowded and too far away from me. That private mountain you refer to is no longer private - Windham Mountain. I usually ski at Gore Mountain, and sometimes at West Mountain.

I wasn't aware that Alpina (and perhaps Head) make rear entry boots. Back in the day, I had Salomon rear-entry boots which fit like slippers. A few years back, I bought a pair of Full-Tilt boots which are not rear entry, but open up pretty wide with 3 buckles. Easier for me to get on my feet than most boots would be, but maybe I'll do some research on those Alpinas.

Have fun!

check out " LEVEL NINE . COM " I paid $129.00 for the Alpina R4 ….. If you ever want to ski in Vermont ( Mad River Glen, Stowe, Sugarbush, or Bolton valley ) let me know I can put you ( plus family or friends ) up for a few days or longer …… Mike
