• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

New hitch install on RT

I am suppose to get my new hitch today for my RT. I have looked at Lamonsters post in the DIY section but still have a coupe questions for the pro's. first is when I pull the axel out will the tire stay in place an not fall out? Second will this mess with the belt tension? Third should the axel come out pretty easy? Thanks for the help in advance.

Don't know what you mean by "cel" but the only thing you need to remove is the cotter pin in the existing axle nut on the right side, slide the new hitch in place, insert the new long bolt through the hitch and existing axle bolt, put new nut and washer on right side, torque to spec.and install the new cotter pin in the new hitch bolt on the right side. You are never messing with the existing axle bolt or adjusting it. The retention of the hitch is acheived with the new, long hitch bolt slidding through the hollow existing axle bolt. You remove the cotter pin to allow thee new long bolt to slide completly through the axle bolt.

That was a typo error. It was suppose to be axel. Sorry.
 
If you are installing the BRP hitch all you do is pull the two black plastic caps on the axle. Pull the cotter pin for the axle nut. As long as you don't unscrew the axle nut the wheel alignment and belt tension are good to go. The fun part is getting the hitch slide on over the swing arms. The hitch I got from BRP was very tight going over the swing arms and I had to use a block of wood and a hammer to drive it into place. Apply a thin coat of grease on the long bolt and try to coat the inside hole of the axle. Look into each hole of the swing arm/hitch and get them centered before you install the long bolt. I had to use a mirror to do the right side because the muffler is in the way. It is very important to get the holes aligned so you don't damage the thread on the long bolt. I also use a crows foot on the torque wrench to tighten the nut for the long bolt. Hopefully yours goes on easy as that means it will come off easy. I am going to cut a weld on my hitch and spread it apart and reweld it so it will go on easy. BRP needs to find a better jig to weld up the parts so with the nylon plates in place the hitch will slide on the swing arms.

Installing the wire harness is also a challenge.

Its not the BRP hitch.. It is this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/330559300639?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 I think I may have flubbed up buying this one but it seemed to be ok with him selling over 40 of them with no neg feedback..
 
To answer some of your questions:

Yes, removing the axle will allow the rear wheel to drop or the Spyder to drop over it. Be sure to have a jack/jackstands under the Spyder, and to support the wheel. That is the advantage of the BRP hitch, the axle needn't be removed.

Yes, it will affect the belt tension and adjustment. If you do not change the adjusters, it should go back into place if you seat the adjusters firmly. Best way to do this is lower the syder on the jack after the axle is in place, pushing the wheel in place. Wiggle the adjusters. If they move or have a gap to the swingarm, they are not seated properly. Be sure to check the belt tracking and the belt tension after things are tightened up. You may have to make several tries at it. If you have to move the adjusters, they are probably not seated properly...double check for wiggle or gaps.
 
Got it on the Spyder. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Tomorrow it is going to the dealer for a new rear tire. I know i know. Why not let them do it?? Cause I need to start learning a few things about this ride. Thanks everyone for the help.
