• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Trailered our 2011 RT SE5 to ocean for 2 wk vacation. Today decided to ride 80 miles to CanAm Dealer via ocean hi way and check them out. 30 miles from dealer engine light came on, limp mode. Pulled off hiway, turned off, etc etc, problem remained . Called dealer we were headed to, they came and got us. Plugged into computer and diagnosed as total throttle body failure. Have had two of the three software flash upgrades addressing the throttle body issue, but throttle body still failed. Here's the kicker.....:yikes:...dealer said BRP has has had to do three upgrades so far, but still has not been able to solve the throttle body issue. So even though we are going to get a new throttle body assembly, dealer says they have had at least 3 spyders where even the new assembly's are still going bad after about 3 thousand miles. My RT has 4700 miles. Has anyone else heard this, or know of any fixes or future fixes? My husband was entertaining getting rid of his HD for RT but after what dealer says, even afraid of us going on extended bike trips! We almost went another direction today that wud have put us in isolated boondocks...very scary..love my RT, so need some positive energy here.

There do seem to be some things going on with the throttle bodies that BRP doesn't completely understand. There have been some secondary failures...after the updates and new throttle bodies. Fortunately, repeat failures are few. There have also been some Spyders that should have had new throttle bodies, but only got updates, due to dealer error...and subsequently failed later. There have also been quite a few failures of 2010 throttle bodies...sometimes multiples, even though the updates do not address the 2010s, and they were supposed to have only isolated mechanical TB problems. On the plus side, there have been an awful lot of RTs that have never had any throttle body issues at all. Luck of the draw, I suppose. Like the DPS issue, this may take some time to figure out and cure. All we can do is be patient, and know that BRP is every bit as interested in getting this thing resolved as we are.

Fortunately, not many of us who had the failures have been completely stranded or stuck in limp mode. It sometimes took me multiple reboots to get out of limp mode, but I was always successful. That is important 1,000 miles from home. If I wanted a Spyder, I doubt I would let this issue scare me away. I have also not let it keep me from any riding, including some rides of several thousand miles. If it breaks down, I'll get it somewhere to be fixed, and take the bus home if need be. I won't be happy, but I will do whatever it takes. I guess that's just me. Everyone has to decide for themselves how much risk, worry, or aggravation they can tolerate. To me, the Spyder is worth a little worry, but to some others it may not be. I know this is not very positive, but hopefully you will not see the problem again after they fix things for you.

Thanks for ur reply. After sleeping on it I too will continue to enjoy the ride. The tech actually said it should run better than ever after the fix. On a side note, I enjoy reading ur Responses to posts. May I ask, do u work in service or In That environment? Your Tech knowledge and explanations Are very informative and easy to understand to the tech challenged:)

I am a biologist by education, but I worked as an engineer most of my life. I've been twisting wrenches for fun and games since I was about ten, and started racing (building & tuning my own) at 14. I have been happily retired since 2005. Thank you for the kind words.

Well he's our... Scotty! :bowdown::bowdown:
He can explain stuff so that even I can understand him! :2thumbs:

Scotty, The Spyder Guru, a Biologist ......... who woulda thunk it ????

:firstplace: I couldn't agree more :agree::agree: He's the most Spyder Knowledgeable Guy I know and he has no problem with sharing his wealth of information:bowdown::bowdown: I know he's personally helped Teddy & I out on a number of occasions :thumbup:

Back to your issue, it would seem a very limited number of Spyders have this issue with repeated TB failures, as Forrest comes to mind having 3,4 or 5 replaced, I believe. It can be and is frustrating, but if they can finally get it resolved, the past frustration will soon give way to Miles of Smiles:yes::2thumbs::yes: Here's a lil pic of Teddys sentiment that he wants to share with you;)
