• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Need more fuel - any Aux tanks or extra capacity?

Has anyone added more fuel capacity? Do you know if you can tap into the fuel line without computer problems. I have a 2014 STL and wanted to add a 2.5 gallon aux. tank and pipe it in with a tee in the main line.

Mr Orange added an auxiliary fuel tank in the frunk of his bike...
I'll see if I can find you a link to his thread about it...

EDIT: I can't find any of his posts about it...

They got removed from here for some reason. I found them on the other Spyder site about 6 months ago.

Can you grab some of his pictures, and maybe his description of what sort of connections and fuel lines he used?
(Sorry; I Know that I'm asking a lot of you...)

He must have deleted everything when he left this site.

AUX. GAS TANK

...if memory serves me correctly, He spent in the neighborhood of $ 1500 for that 2.5 gal and lost a lot of storage space....but if you have to have it ........what's a little money :roflblack: :roflblack: :roflblack:..........Mike ..................PS, I would check the legalities of doing this and if you think adding an after market trailer Hitch to your Spyder and possibly voiding your Warranty .......well just try and hide this from the dealer :bdh:

I have piped aux gas in with a tee by splicing into the fuel line but not on a Spyder. Someone else will have to address the computer interface question. I don't think there would be a problem. One thing I learned is to run off the aux tank first then the main tank. That way I have the stock gas gauge to tell me whats left. And I always have fresh gas in the aux.

He lost all of his front trunk and on an RS that eliminates all storage. He did use his for commuting and his reason for adding was that he didn't want to have to stop for gas every other day. Jim Potts is probably the dealer who installed it for him.

Looked like this...

Found this picture on google.....

I must admit I've gone the easy way and have fitted panniers just so I can 4 1.5 gallon gas cans, 2 on each side. Obviously not plumbed in but does mean I don't have to worry so much about the routes I take.

I don't have any direct experience with them, but I considered getting one from these folks for my previous ride.

This is what I plan to use so I don't give up storage space and have a better weight distribution. My concern is tha if I plumb it into the stock fuel line prior to the fuel pump, will the computer have a problem with possible head pressure variance with the vented caps.

:agree: & have another thread about spare gas too. My biker bud has one of these on his VTX1800 , works & looks great :firstplace:I will have it feed the tank rather than splice lines. Got information from a member that had a gravity feed thru gas cap on his '08 RS. My only debate is how I want to mount. lot of irons in the fire & want to get it right for long term  I have the tank & all the hoses, clamps .... Thinking the rear sports rack will provide the mounting surface I want. Fyi the only piece I dont have yet.

When you say "Gravity feed through the gas cap" do you mean that you would stop, open the cap and fill the tank?

It would be nice to be able to fill the tank without stopping.

is why im going to tap tank. Prolly add small pump
Actually this guy drilled a hole in cap ran hose thru & had no problems. Just not what I care to do not going to risk vapors & such. My only corrispondice with him was when I was searching & saw old thread on google search with pics. He actully sold me his old tank & what he had left, no rack. Look back Ive edited & added a pic

You don't need any pumps or check valve or anything like that that can add cost and complexity. Just hook the aux tank up just like we did with the Tour Buddy tanks that are popular on snowmobiles. Disconnect the vent line from the the main tank to the cannister. Hook a fuel line from the aux tank suction line to the vent on the main tank. Hook the vent line from the aux tank to the cannister. Just make sure the top of the aux tank is lower in the chassis then the top of the main tank. Also make sure the vent line from the aux tank loops up 4 or 5 inches higher than the top of the main tank. As the fuel is used from the main tank. Vacuum will draw the the fuel from the aux tank into the main tank.
