• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

need help with alarm (starter kill)

i purchased talon alarm with spyder harness and i understand everything else but the starter kill relay part
anyone installed talon or other alarm themselves?

How necessary is it to install an alarm on a motorcycle? This bike has no value other than for a joy ride as they're all under warranty...meaning, there is no parts market as there is with Honda Civics, etc...

How many here have heard of motorcycles being stolen...for that matter, any Spyders??

I know many people who live in major cities and just cover their bikes outside, but none have ever complained of their bikes being stolen or played with.

Is the alarm more for a novelty, or do you (or anyone else) think there is really a true need for such.

Just curious...thanks...

Sometimes things are stolen for joy rides or reselling the whole thing, not just for parts. There have been a few reports of Spyders being stolen.

AKA ... I just successfully installed a Talon 3300p last week myself. What kind of help do you need? I took my time analyzing it before installing and figured out quiet a few short cuts. Everything went in very easy and straight forward (witht Talon's Spyder harness).

Post your questions here and I can help you.

i figure with spyder harness for the most part it will be plug and play but
i dont know where starter relay is

as far as need for alarm goes, i live in los angeles and first thing on my mind when i got the spyder was to get an alarm

Yes, its all plug-n-play. If you follow the RED wire from the battery to where the "alternate" positive terminal is under the seat. That is the starter relay. You need to take the left side panel off to get at it.

I for me, I would like to have just a motion or such, to keep the kids off when parked at a shopping center.
I went into publix to get some stuff, and upon my return to the parking lot, I found four little kids on the spyder and the parents standing there looking.... Now just what do you think I said, and I don't speak spanish? Well I shall not repeat it here.

I did the fog, 12v, sport rack, tank bag and Talon at the same time. It's not as bad once you start it. BRP and Talon's directions aren't very good. Look at Lamont's fog light direction with pic ... they are very helpful.

fog light amplified speakers,12v outlet was no problem but talon alarm's fuse on power line blew everytime i connected it to battery.
i am stumped. i switched between 2 cables out of starter relay but no luck did same for turn signal light, no luck and other cable out of factory harness only goes in oneway so thats not it.

hmm since alarm module gets negative power source from one of the cable may it it needs to be connected in right combination

You reversed the rear signal light tap. Tap the colored wire aka "hot". If you tap the black one, which is the ground, then you will blow a fuse everytime. According to this forum, BRP sometimes can fubar the light connection. Use a volt meter to test all connections to verify its polarity if it is still giving you trouble.

Nice job M2Wild

Sounds like you not only mastered installing the Talon you have also become a great source of info. Glad everything went well for you and it works

I really like this forum. I get great help from everyone here and doing my part contributing back to the community by helping others.

Talon install was a pretty slow process. I took my time working on it little bit at a time and figure out where I want everything. Those dang wires are BARELY long enough to get to all the places I wanted. And their instructions really suck in a few area. I had to hit up their site and look in their forum as well as SpyderTalk forum to get my answers. No wonder you didn't want to do all that monkeying around in the cold. At least mine is in the basement with a wood stove roaring and temps in the 70s. I know what you guys are thinking .... I did drain the gas on the Spyder. LOL I like my Spyder souped up not crispy.

lets see so i was supposed to use positive only from BOTH rear turn lights?
i used both wires from 1 turn light. i guess thats where the problem was.
did it seem to matter which cable to tap on starter relay?

thank you for your help:2thumbs:

did i mention them speakers i got from dwg works very very good?:p

I tapped the closest one to the outside on the rely as it is the easiest to access. Haven't tested it yet as it sits inside my basement with an empty gas tank. I drained it because I have a wood stove going not too far from it.
