Need Advice About Purchasing A Trailer

I am thinking about purchasing a trailer for my 2011 RT Limited. The dealer has quoted me a price of $5100 which includes license, tax, the trailer hitch, all of the necessary hardware and installation. Can those of you who have purchased a trailer let me know if this is a good price? Thanks, I need the advice.

Too much!!!!! If your talking about a trailer to pull with your trike, then I recommend the BRP trailer. If you are talking about a trailer to trail your bike, look at Drop trail.

It is reliable, and with a few local mods does the trick.

Brand New from a dealer, this is typical but you can probably find a much better deal

I'd check around on the net or see if any other local dealers have a 10 or 11 model at a deal price (IMHO)

Sounds pretty close to MSRP to me...but they are also including the installation. You may be able to better...perhaps even with your dealer if you bargain. You'll love the RT-622, it is one sweet trailer!

I purchased my RT-622, hitch, hitch support and trailer cover for about 10% below MSRP and the dealer threw in the hitch and hitch support installation at no cost. He also threw in the rekeying of the trailer to the Spyder key. This was May/June 2011 for a 2011 RT-622. I also purchased my Spyder there in April.

Seen on ebay for 463.99 at buy it now. There was a used one and a new one you could bid on and get it cheaper.
Not real difficult to install if you take your time. Really helps if you have a friend help (or do most of it, like Yol Bolsun ).

Of course finding one close to you may be hard. Don't worry about it being a 2010 or 2011, they are the same except the way the blinkers are wired. It will still be under 2 year warranty. Just make sure that the rain kit is installed before you pick it up (it was not on the 2010, but added later, but there is a bulletin to add it to older ones for free).

Now if you have the Lava Bronze or the Quantum Blue, your gonna have to get a 2012, unless you don't care about it matching.

I purchased my RT-622, hitch, hitch support and trailer cover for about 10% below MSRP and the dealer threw in the hitch and hitch support installation at no cost. He also threw in the rekeying of the trailer to the Spyder key. This was May/June 2011 for a 2011 RT-622. I also purchased my Spyder there in April.

When you buy a new RT, they include the key barrel that you can use on the trailer, that way you don't have to re-key the lock on the trailer or have to separate sets of keys. Usually that is included on the price of the install since it is only a couple of minutes that it takes to replace the barrel.

As far as the price goes... I would start at $4500 and work up. That is what I paid back for my 2010 RT-622, hitch and all the necessary hardware, installation, license, tags and taxes. I understand they have gotten up a tad. A good friend that works in the business told me that the markup for the trailers is not that much, so understand they want to get their profit. Also, if you are going to pay the $5100 make sure he can get BRP to send it ASAP since they only make a certain amount a year... usually have to call other dealers to see if they have your particular color available (and yours being a RT Limited, white), it seems to me that particular color is on demand. Search dealer web sites within 100 miles or call them. That is what I did last year and found a 622 at a dealer about 60 miles away for $3,850 out the door including the hitch installed. It matched my Timeless black RT. When I traded the black 2011 in on my new Pearl White Limited I just had a local body shop paint the trailer to match the new bike. Cost was $400 and I supplied the paint (that pearl white two-stage paint is expensive at $210 a quart).

My local dealer has a new silver 2011 trailer on the floor that he offered to me at $2,500 when I bought the new Spyder that I believe was his cost or close to it, so there is probably more dealer mark up on the trailer than we thought.

I bit my tongue for a long time, but I just don't get anyone paying $5 grand for a motorcycle trailer to haul "stuff". A camper? Sure. But with really nice big trailers available for $1,300 to $2,100 on the net, and a matching paint job under $500?????

I paid less than that for a trailer to tow behind the Spyder, hitch, and a COVERED trailer to put the Spyder in and tow behind my truck!! Jeeze Louise…..
