• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

My first impressions

Here are my thoughts and impressions after trading off my HDFreewheeler on a Can Am RT Limited.

First let me say that I have had HD products for over 25years. They have one of the best dealers network that you will find anywhere inthe U.S. Can Am’s dealers seem to be a whole different breed depending on yourlocation in the U.S. I guess the key for Can Am dealers is to make sure theyemploy Certified Tech’s thru BRP, at least that’s what I’ve been told to date.

Health issues with my back caused me to make the switch to aTrike a little over a year ago. Being a HD guy at heart I went out andpurchased a HD Freewheeler.
After several mods to the Free, it was set up the way Iwanted for riding. For a single up riding machine it is okay, not the best. Theride was like sitting on top of a pogo stick, to say the least. When I rode twoup with the wife, she could hardly stand to ride for no more than 30 minutes orso. It handle pretty good for a trike, a sportier feel that their Tri-glidedoes. With that in mind, the next mod I did was a DK Custom comfort lift kit, which they sell for both the Free and Tri. Anyone who’s has a HD trike shouldlook into their kit, it made a 200% percent improvement in the ride, at leastthe wife could ride for an hour or so now. Single up, it really rode andhandled better, even sportier than before.

Then came a test ride on the Can Am just by chance on aSaturday, this lead me to selling the Free and purchasing a Can Am RT Limited.

The Spyder, hands down I think you would be hard pressed tofind a better ride in a 3 wheeled vehicle. The first night home the wife and Irode for a little over 2 hours with no problems or complaints from the wife.Absolutely loves the ride and adjustability of the suspension. The handling isremarkable, it corners almost like it’s in rails. I even got caught out in arain storm yesterday and could not believe how dry I stayed. On the HD Iusually got soaking wet, no so much on the Spyder. Handling in the rain, onceagain the Spyder 1000 times better. Only thing I notice that thru deeper wateryou can hydroplane a little if you’re not careful, but that was on me. The HDterrible, would plow thru the corner like a snowplow, hard to control. But onceagain you should slow down in wet weather.

In conclusion, I am very happy with the choice I made toswitch ride. No regrets only looking forward to spending more time riding, along with longer trips with the wife.
In no way am I saying that the HD trikes are bad, just notto my liking. I guess that’s way thereare different brands and configurations of 3 wheeled motorcycles. To each theirown style, taste and comfort.

Once again, I enjoyed all the input from everyone I receivedduring my decision process on my purchase.
Hopefully I will see some of you some day at an event in thefuture.
Stat safe and have fun, Emil.

:congrats::agree:When I was in a situation where I had to trade in my Victory Vision and go to three wheels, I did a demo on a Harley Tri-glide. I had never ridden a trike before and I felt as if I was driving a farm tractor. The handling was awful.

I then demoed the Spyder RT, and immediately knew that this was the trike for me. Much easier to handle, and a much better value.

I have to agree with you about the Harley dealer network. That is one thing that company has that no other motorcycle company does. The Can Am dealer network leaves much to be desired, which makes it a good idea to learn how to perform your own service.

Enjoy your :f_spider:

Congratulations on your choice.

I agree - the dealer network is the single best feature of HD. I've heard so many stories of people who brokedown on weekends several states from home, but HD always got someone in to perform the necessary repairs. I also agree - there's no trike like a Spyder. Excellent handling due to the nanny and to physics of cornering - most of the downward force is on the outside-front of a turn, and a regular trike has nothing there.

Looking forward to seeing how you start modifying your byke - it's not your byke until you make it your byke.

 Thanks for a very honest assessment of BOTH bikes! :2thumbs:
And you're right!
They're both good; just in different ways! :D

Welcome to the club! My wife and I just bought a 2013 Spyder RT-S SE-5 just over two weeks ago and have put just shy of 1200 miles on it. Hope you love yours as much as we love ours!
