Sadly passed away, December '23.
Well today was Wed, and I took my demo ride of the 2019 Can Am Ryker, 900 ACE I have been considering purchasing.
First, let me start out by saying unlike a lot of people here, I have zero riding experience. I have 51 years driving experience, but zero riding experience.
The salesman brought out the bike I'm looking at and gave me a quick run down on the controls and stuff, while I put on my gear. He then told me to go have fun and he'll see me what I get back and I was off and running.
The throttle on that thing is awful touchy. So there was a lot of jerking at first because I rolled on too much and had to back off. I must have looked like someone learning to drive a manual transmission vehicle.
I quickly got the hang of the throttle control, at least leaving from a stop. But then I ran into problems while making turns. I kept accidentally rolling on the throttle while turning the handle bars. This again had me jerking like a rookie.
pps:
I stuck mainly to some of the less crowded back roads in the area, as I tried to acclimate myself to being exposed to the great outdoors. I have to admit I enjoyed that part of the experience very much.
The ride was a lot smoother then I expected it would be, and I did not notice any trembling or vibration through the handle bars or foot pegs. I kept looking down to make sure I was not inadvertently riding the brake pedal.
Is this bike fast? Oh Lord yes. On a few of the roads, I decided to give the throttle a good twist and this baby took off. I actually scared myself a few times.
.
I as a little apprehensive about taking it out on the interstate. But I knew, if I decided to go ahead with the purchase, I had 60 miles of interstate travel ahead of me, with no back road alternatives to get me home. With that in mind, I decided to bite the bullet and go for broke.
ray:
Remembering what I read on here about keeping a light touch on the handle bars, I hit the on ramp and gave it the gun. In seconds I had gone from 23-70 mph. Once I got settled into my lane, I kept it at around 65 mph, which is my normal interstate speed.
It rode like an arrow, straight and true. I quickly felt perfectly comfortable and at home. The wind was not too awful bad. but pretty loud in my open face half helmet. Heading west, the wind was at my back. When I swung around for the return ride, I was heading into the wind, but still not a big issue.
I have an extremely strong suspicion this is going to find a space parked between by truck and the wife car. Possibly as soon as tomorrow.
