Mud flap leds /into brake light??

Can someone please tell me how to turn the mud flap leds into brake lights. I have the fender tip light kit installed with mud flap leds and the triple play. The fender tip light kit has two wires that run up to the front blinkers left/right. Are these the wire I connect to the rear blinkers? And I will have brake lights? NO! Or do you run a new wire from the mud flap to rear blinkers? Running wire from wheel along front suspension looks a bit tricky. YES!

the link says it can be done but it still doesnt answer my question about what wire to use?? is it from the finder tipz or from the mud flaps leds directly?

You have to connect the mudflaps to the Triple Play installed at the rear of the vehicle for brake lights, not to the Tipz, which would provide only the turn signal function, not both signals and brakes. Hooking to the unmodified fender tip lights provides only running lights.

Hopefully MM can do a small write up regarding the wiring layout and setup. I intend on doing the same with mudflap lights once i get the kit here.

here's the message i got from ESI.

"This is not something we offer as a "normal kit" to do.

It can be done for sure. But is way to involved to do in emails or by written instructions, and inasmuch the reason it is not offered as a normal mod ether.

I have custom done it for Lamonster myself, and there are a few others who have called and I walked them through it too. But after seeing the time it takes to walk some of these people through it, we decided it was not something that was easily done and would not be offered to the general public.

But like I said, it can be done for sure 100%. But this is not a normal thing being done by most regular customers.

I spliced on about 7' of wire on each mud flap lead and then put the 4 wires thru a plastic wire loom. Then took off the right side panels and ran the loom along the frame rail, under the fuel tank, under the fuse block and into the rear of the Spyder.

At the triple play, connect the 2 wires from the right mud flap to the 2 wires going to the right rear turn signal. Same for left. I used posi-tap connectors to tap into the turn signal wires.

As a non-sanctioned (by ESI) mod I was lucky and everything worked great. That is until I added the ESI center tail light and connected it to the triple play. I started getting a weird flash rate on the turn signals. Magic Man was kind enough to help diagnose that I had too much stuff connected to the triple play. ESI sold me another wire connector for the tail light and it works fine now, but just not flashing from the triple play.

You would need two light intensities for this feature and the mudflaps do not offer such...I guess you could cut some of the juice to the LEDs and have it increase when you hit the brake, but I'm not sure how that would work. The mudflap lights are bright enough...needing them to function as brake lights might be overkill, IMHO...

The mudflaps are my favorite modification! They look awesome just the way they are!

with a reply like that sometimes i wonder if i should even buy more of your stuff

Wow hard crowd. :yikes:

It was a joke! :gaah:

Being up to my eye balls in it most days, having more thing to do on my plate is the last thing I needed. I'm already pulling my hair out and there's not much left! :roflblack:

i did it..

I did it and it works great. The mud flaps are now BRAKE lights/ running lights/ and blinkers. easy to do. Run wires from mud flaps to rear blinkers that are connected to the triple play. Hardest part is running the wires. i did notice the running lights aren't as bright. Guess thats cause when you apply the brake it needs to be brighter then your running lights. Thanks for the help Spydr in KS and NancysToy. The reason I felt it should be done is because after ryding behind another syder in a toyz for totz ryde with the mud flap leds. I felt my eyes were drawn to the mudflaps even when braking. I almost rear ended him cause I was looking at the mud flaps and they didn’t brighten up when he applied the brake. But of course normally you wouldn’t follow as closely.

Hey Oz,
Is the wires long enough to run from the front to the back? did you need extra positap connectors for it? I'll be getting my led mud flaps, triple play, front led signal lights soon...

No - the wires aren’t long enough. I used about 8’ of wire for ea run. You do need 4 posi-twist type connecters to connect the mud flap leds to the wires. (electric tape works too:dontknow:). The mud flap leds come with 4 posi-tap connectors I used those to connect in the rear at the triple play. don’t forget the wire loom to protect the wires. :ohyea:

Hey Ozzie and Spyder in KS,

Got the Mud flaps hooked up to the triple play... and the hardest part about it was wire management... getting the wire loom on from front to back... but overall, no problems... my Spyder looks like a christmas tree now... lol... got HIDs in the front/fog lights, and got LEDs in the back... now I think I gotta aim the headlights down, cause I think I was blinding a car as I went for a test drive...

thanks for the help!!!!

Dennis
