There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. 2022 RT-L, 4003 miles petrol blue . tire pressure 20 front 28 rear.

so as i'm toggling through my display to check current MPG i notice that instant MPG is hovering around 37-38 MPG (perfect ) then i noticed average MPG is in single digits saying i'm only getting 8.4 MPG.:yikes:

i fill up reset everything and head out for morning ride, i keep display on MPG and instant reads fine mid to high 30's average reads single digits.

thoughts. did i miss the boat on something.

Those computer generated mpg reports are dubious at best.

Do an "actual" test a couple times. Important to fill to the same level each time. Auto shut off is not the way. Clear tripmeter to zero. Fill tank. I fill to the ring, let it settle for a couple seconds, and re-fill to the ring. Then of course...at the next fill...Take the total miles divided by the number of gallons...and you will have the most accurate mpg. It's based on the full tank and the going downhill with the wind at your back, going uphill into the wind, cruising on the highway at whatever speed, etc. are all rounded into a nice number...that can be compared from tank to tank if you so desire. MPG is a good estimate, but is a crapshoot because of all the variables. Throttle twist, or lack thereof, using cruise control or not, etc. Best mileage will be at 55 mph in sixth gear, (about 3500 rpms on the 1330's). This is where the machine is set for optimum. With those perameters, I get consistant high 30's to low 40's, depending on the circumstances of the ride.

I go to the next decimal only. I don't go with four and five place decimals. This makes the math more difficult and a false sense of over accuracy. It's not that much different.

E.G. 100.42 miles would be rounded to 100 miles. 100.52 miles would be rounded to 101 miles. Gallons: 4.625 would round to 4.6. 4.655 would be rounded to 4.7.

You probably know most or all of this...but from time to time I post full details for those who don't know.

That reading is going to need you to log a lot more miles upon the bike before the fuel mileage SWAG can be computed after the reset.

:agree: x 2. A couple thousand miles for everything to set in nice. Mileage should improve a bit till you get about 3500 on the odo.

You will have average mpg for the A & B trip meters and the overall mileage. This number will reset if you reset it. I can't remember which direction you push the controller for reset. But once reset it will start all over again. I don't ever reset my overall mileage one because I want to know my average from the beginning of time. I'm not sure if it will reset anyway. In any case what you see is the average mileage you have gotten since your last reset. Same goes for speed both average and maximum. It all resets if you reset that particular reading (A, B, or overall). I hope this makes sense. Your average can be that low if you reset the bike and ride it really hard or if you reset it and start out before the engine has warmed up, etc. It should not be that way for long after a reset.

i hope so, tomorrow i'm taking a nice 3 hour ride all back roads.

The only reliable fuel mileage calculations are those you do manually making sure you fill as close as possible to the same level each time.

When I got my RTL I just put a little notebook in the glove box and record every gallon of fuel I add to the tank. Every once in a while I just do the math with total miles driven and total fuel. If you don’t have a record of all fuel used, no problem. Just pick a new starting mileage and start keeping track of all fuel. It won’t matter if you fuel to the same spot each time as long as you can wait to do reliable long term calculations for another 1-2k miles and then just use your “new” zero starting point and all fuel since (doing a good complete fill just before doing the math).
