• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Motorcycle Touring Maps

I picked up a really good map of Motorcycle rides in the SE United States (picture attached). Have done a couple of the routes and they are really fun. They have maps for other areas of the U.S. at www.wildrides.info (no pdf's yet, you have to order them). I picked mine up at a local BBQ spot in TN that is popular with bikers. It looks like they also might be available at most HD Dealerships.

Just some info that may be useful to some.....

:agree: We picked a couple of those up at the Maggie Valley event earlier this month, it was a big help and the map was so accurate with about 40 routes to run in the area.

Around here we have available "Come Ride With Us Motorcycle Maps" that cover a local area and are distributed free supported by ads. They show gravel roads and paved roads. I've no idea how much of the US they cover but they're available for most of the Northwest.

I just found their web site. They have 3 maps for Idaho, 3 for Oregon, and 1 for Washington. Guess that doesn't do any good for you guys elsewhere!

I HAVE, & USE, THE SAME MAP..... EXCELLENT....

here's a website you may enjoy looking thru: http://www.roadtripamerica.com
tons & tons of awesome roads to ride....
enjoy...

Thanks! Here is another one I use from time to time:

The trick to this website is you have to let your area of interest "load up"....and it takes some time. You might not see any routes at first, then in a couple of minutes you will see a bunch. Very handy site, covers the whole country.

We use Butler Motorcycle Maps. They have all the good rides shadowed and all the points of interest and history on the back. Hill Country Rally gave them

out for that part of Texas. A great addition and nice gesture!

Thanks for the updated information. Been pretty safe living up here. Our main highways are #1, 2, and 3. I don't get lost to much. :roflblack::roflblack:

Prior to that, I wore out a Rand McNally Road Atlas about every other year. If I decide to make the move to Arkansas, your suggestions will be a good starting point.

I have the urge to see more of the "Eastern" side and some of those beautiful parks and parkways.

Travel has been big desire, but that Alcan "hump" just to get to the lower 48 has been an issue.:popcorn::popcorn: Time will tell.

Going to check Butler out for sure. Always took the advice of R/M when traveling and used the "Scenic Byways" when possible. Never been burned on that one.

Mid-Atlantic States

There is a GREAT book titled; "Great Roads Great Rides" that covers 8,000 miles of roads with, I believe, less than 150 miles of highway. It is broken up into 1, 2 and 3 day rides and gives accurate mileages for turns, waypoints, etc.. A great deal for $24.95 with free postage.

My only gripe with these maps.....and its a big one.....is that these "routes" are BOUGHT by companies to steer travelers to their establishments. These places tend to be tourist traps and are not frequented by the local crowd who know better. BackroadsUSA is such a publication that is VERY advertiser friendly and the places they recommend in my area are not worth anyone's time.

Remember one thing with these "free" maps......someone paid for them....for a reason. nojoke

I drive over into ohio about every week and I always stop at the welcome center as I reenter west virginia from pennsylvania. found 8 different riding maps with a lot of roads and other attractions in wv that a lot of I didn't know existed. going to be a busy riding year next year, wife is retiring in feb.

The famous Alaska Milepost magazine is similar. Only advertisers get mentioned in the mile by mile narrative. If you are on the route and do not advertise...you do not get mentioned.

Very good information though, and you do find some unexpected gas stations, motels, and restaurants.
