There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Measles, diseases - survival of

Once, after I had moved away from my hometown, I was giving a medical history to a new doctor and said that I'd had "all the usual childhood diseases." The doctor stopped writing, looked up at me, and then I realized he was younger than me and didn't have a clue what I was talking about!

So I asked my Mom about it. I wasn't sure what "all the usually childhood diseases" meant. I remember she said I'd had measles, both kinds, the regular kind and "the really bad kind."

So with the recent news I looked it up to see what that meant. "German measles" is rubella. The other kind is "red measles," which can result in pneumonia or encephalitis!

So I'm thinking about all the diseases I had that kids now-days are vaccinated for. Also all the stunts I pulled that my Mom never knew about.

It really is a wonder that I survived so long!

I see so many moms today that are paranoid about their kids getting dirty - scrubbing hands with anti-bacterail this and that. Dirt is good for kids. It helps the body develop antibodies to a vast array of diseases.

Mom's passed antibodies to us while breast feeding - now, they "don't have the time". I think this is going to bite our grandkids...

There is growing evidence that the push for a bacterial-free existence may be a contributing factor for everything from asthma to food allergies. Kids aren't seeing the range of illnesses when they are young that helps develop a good immune system.

Add to that isolation as kids stay inside, without play time in the dirt, and the risk keeps growing.

As said above, I agree it doesn't bode well for future generations.

Agree..!!

scary to think when we were kids if any child got these illnesses we were send to hang out with them so we would catch them. Better now than when your older I was told. The human body has the amazing ability to heal itself given the chance. I too am amazed at being alive in todays world and apparently defied all odds considering the amount of lead I consumed (gasoline, pencils, paints) mercury based fillings in my teeth and so on. Don't get me wrong preventative medicine is good but rooted in the body no longer defending itself or being allowed to. Well I had a great childhood and am still here in spite of it...:yes:

...and now there is a push by some parents to not get their kids immunized because of the very few that have had problems from the vacine. I don't get this. More kids can have a lot more problems without the vacine. It seems that these days when the measles does rear up again, the strain is more viralent. Why not get the immunization done and spare your kids a lot of problems later. When I got the measles when I was 8 I was stuck in the house for two weeks during the summer. They didn't have the vacine then but had they it would have gave me back those two weeks where I could have had fun instead of a darkened room.

i don't know about the rest of you, but when i was a kid our parents would put all of us together to catch the same sickness. sounds strange but i remember my mom saying that

Not strange - get it all over at once... Folks expect medicine to be perfect - it is not, and won't be any time soon. Drugs are for an average, not just you, so some may NOT work on you. But here, if you are the one in 5 million who has a problem, it's hi ho and off to the lawyers we go.. Vaccines are not perfect, but remember when friends got Polio? The iron lungs?? I do.

This explains it:

I agree and thats why when I am sick I try to cough on as many kis as I can:yikes:

Yeah, I've heard stories about "chickenpox parties". Somehow I missed those parties.

Didn't catch chickenpox until I was in my mid 40's.

We were born and raised in the dirt.:D
One of my most vivid memories of youth was while milking cows watching the green swirl in the milk bucket as bits of manure fell off the cow and into the bucket! :gaah:We drank that milk to our health! :D

Probably the reasons
