• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Low Voltage Error and Electical Shutdown

Key West trip, riding my 12 RT with 16K miles. Low voltage error flashed on screen, pulled over then Limp Mode, parking brake would not set. Electrical shut down.
New battery is 5 mos old. Towed to dealer, waiting for service.
my question to you guys! What's wrong? Looking back first battery lasted less than a year.
Any thoughts?
Thank you!!!

 A loose connection?
What caused the first battery to die so quickly? :dontknow:
Could this be the same issue popping up again?

It looks like a loose connection or a charging system problem. In general a dead battery should not show while driving unless the charging system is not working. You need a mechanic to test the system and find the real problem for you.

Billy, If the magneto in that bike quit "magnetoing"; wouldn't that have thrown a code long before the low voltage warning popped up? :dontknow:
That's why I'm leaning toward a loose connection. Even the ground wire to the frame should be checked.

Have them check charging voltage the gage I installed stays around 13.8 at 5000 rpm the digital gage fits good in the hole of the gas or temperture ,52mm hole, simple install .Where did you break down?

Loose connection is still a strong possibility, but a failed or failing charging system may not show until the battery runs down some. Bad battery is still possible but unlikely given the symptoms and history.

quit in Naples! Now in cage going to Key West. UGG
ground wire not loose

Regulator/Rectifier is most likely the cause. Other possibility is faulty magneto. Low voltage warning won't show until battery is below critical level. There is a fuse, MF3 in the rear fuse block and another fuse near the starter solenoid that needs to be checked as well.
