Louvered vent on windshield?

Adding a louvered vent to the windshield?

After my ride with Steve, he had a vented front windshield and I have been thinking I would like to have one. He said it also helped with buffeting a little.

Has anyone added their own rather than buying a new windshield?
What is the windshield made from? Plexiglass or something else?

If I did just want to buy a new windshield, I have not seen any links to them and pricing? I did some searching too.

...And the vent he links to (for the GL1500) is the correct vent. The one for the 1800 works, but the curve is a bit off.

Hmmmm.... looks OK but I do like the looks of the BRP vented windshield.

Thanks for the info! I will consider this option for sure.

So the next question would be 25" or 23".
My current 25" when fully up the top is right in my line of sight! Not sure if 2 less inches would help.

Think about it. If you elevate your saddle height to compensate for leg length, you may want 25"? :dontknow:

My 25 is good but I keep it down a bit. I do not like looking through a windshield.

Elevate the saddle? I am getting the BRP comfort seat with 2" more space but this wont elevate me that I am aware of?

http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/SpyderRTprod.html depends of course what you are after. I run the tinted shorty 19" as I prefer to look over it rather than through it. The vent is for sure the way to go to reduce the head bobble effect IMHO. I do get a little kick from the folks that want to feel the "wind in their face" and then hide behind that humungous piece of plexi-glass BRP calls a windshield. If they would make their 23" in a tinted version I would be good to go as you can always cut the windshield very easily. But it really is what do you prefer.............

Bob, I have the 23" vented windshield and to be honest I can't tell it has a vent when I want more air blowing on me. The air coming up between the windshield and the top of the dash blow any air coming through the vent up. However it does help to have it part way open when riding in the rain, it seems to help push the drops off the top of the windshield up and over unlike my GL1800 where they fall off just at eye level :( My GL1800 the vent is above the dash and it blows air where I point it.

I think the Honda shield allows you to direct the air up or down with the vent open where the BRP is only open or closed. I can feel the airflow with the vent open but I have heard some other people that don't notice any difference. I came from the super huge 2010 RT shield and went with the 23" as I wanted as much air as I could possibly get.

You can get a honda vent by its self. And you can cut it in on your frt windo. Vent at my honda is 12.95 and you can get the cuter at lowers for 8.00 .. Not hard to do. I have done 6 so far for some buddy's... Look at and you can do it yourself..not hard just time making it right..

Bear in mind that its not just a vent...if you treat like a flap you can control the head buffeting......boundary layer control.

The HUGE difference between the GL1800 and the RT (I own both) is the Honda windshield is attached to the dash so there is no air flow is present between the top of the dash and the windshield. On the RT there is a huge flow of air parallel to the windshield on the inside and is directed up by the top of the dash and the little winglets on the sides. The Honda vent does not have to over come any vertical air flow and it is higher than the top of the dash so it blows where you point it. You can move it slightly down and it hits your chest or move it up a bit and it hits your face or you can move it up even more and create a flow up and over for a tiny bit of help when raining. There is just no way to compare the vents because of the totally different environment they work in.

Generally I stay dryer when riding in light rain on the Spyder because of the upwards flow of air.

After a 300 mile ride yesterday with the new BRP vented 25" windshield I can honest say their is a lot of airflow coming through.
I rode with the windshield fully up and I was feeling a rush of wind in my face.
The wind shield is narrower than the non vented stock version.
I'm pretty happy with this purchase.
