• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Looking for a answer for a starting problem with my 2014 RTLimited

For the first time I have seen this problem with the spyder which has 34,000 miles on it.
When trying to start the bike, a picture of a key pops on the screen and it says KEY DET and the bike will not start. Bike is in N and the brake is on, turn it off and on again, same problem. Shop time, could not find any code to that problem and re-keyed the keys. Worked for one day, same problem. If I try it a number of times it will clear and I can start the bike. Does anyone know what the problem might be. Ron:banghead:

thanks for the responses I will have them check that issue. And this just started when I installed the CAT pipe from Lamont so I hope that's not a problem cause I like the sound with my Two brothers pipe.

Sounds like the DESS is on its way out:yikes::lecturef_smilie: other reports have been straight FAIL no warnings. Hope the dealer can save you from being stranded. Keep an eye on it & spare keys handy.

The DESS modular will need to be replaced. If yours has not been changed in the past then yours is 4 or 5 mods behind.
Good luck!

Have the DESS system turned off and forget about it. The only person it prevents from starting the bike is you.

Wish I were closer, would be happy to give you a hand with this.

OK, Yes I'm a newby here, but what is the "DESS"?

Search on DESS and you'll see enough threads and posts it'll hurt your brain! It's a well known problem with the early 2014s. Usually requires the DESS module, ignition module, and keys to be changed.

Just a quick question for future reference...... If the DESS starts to go bad, can it be relatively easily "turned off" without getting into a big expense? It this just a BUDS tweek?
