Once again this year we raised donations for the March of Dimes Walk in our home town of Charlotte, NC. We raised $4385.00 this year, more than last year but short of our original goal of $5000. Close enough in any case and still a lot of dough for a great cause. Also of note, once again Spyderlovers represented well over half the amount raised.
To say thank you once again doesn't seem like enough. This spirit of giving that you have shown since Leah's birth and last year's walk is inspirational to me personally and has made Terri and I also more giving to others in turn. Having Leah the way we had to was a life altering experience... and I can say being part of Spyderlovers has been life altering as well. I waited to post as Terri has been filling out the thank you cards for weeks now. Everyone that donated will receive one and Terri is very meticulous about making sure everything is addressed properly and names are right. They went in the mail today. We sent out a boat load this year.
We are thinking about scaling back next year, still raise money, but without the emphasis on the amount. Raise what we can, and maybe somehow I can also squeeze in Spyderfest in Cuba... That is the plan so far.
For those new to Spyderlovers wondering why I'm going on and on about Leah from time to time...Spyderlovers made her quite the Spyderlover child star since she arrived. Aside from the massive amounts of prayers from all of you, the phone calls, PM's received and mystery packages showed up at our door step from Spyderlovers everywhere. We are fortunate to have her, to have her in the fantastic health she is and to be able to share her with everyone.
Leah is still just under 16 pounds. Weight gain has been a real challenge as she is very active and also very picky with her food so far. She is on prescription formula for higher calorie intake as well an additional calorie additive. They are suggesting that she be put on an appetite stimulant and potential be put under so they can scope her stomach and digestive track, sampling enzymes to see if her body is deficient in any way in digesting the food she is already taking in quick enough... We also are going to be seeing a pediatric endocrinologist to have her pituitary output checked for lack of a growth hormone... It is all probably nothing to worry about and she is probably quite normal. She still has four specialists visiting her here at home to make sure she is developing on track and so forth - A Early Interventionist, a dietician, a Physical Therapist and a Speech Therapist for monitoring how she swallows and uses her tongue. So Leah has all the bases covered and by all accounts is right on track.
She also learned the word "NO" from somewhere and does indeed know what it means. :banghead:

I know that we are all bombarded everyday with pleas for donations to very good causes, and I appreciate you supporting ours as well as the many others you are involved with. If there is anything I can ever do for you, please reach out to me. 864-275-6178
