• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Limp Mode

Nice ride to Vegas and bike went into limp mode from heat. I think the computer sucks in this thing base on this being the third time this year. Why can't I go on a long ride without getting this damn thing towed or looking for a dealer to reset the computer?

That sucks Man. I have no idea. Hope you get it worked out. Cooler weather is on the way, not that it helps you out now. :ani29:

Sorry for your difficulties. Sounds like this is a regular thing for you. It is not normal! If your Spyder is still under warranty, I would see your dealer. There are a variety of cures. First, I am assuming your coolant level has been checked and is OK. Is your coolant cap tight, however? The Spyder cap feels like it is tightened at the first notch, but takes some extra effort to push in again and turn to the second set of stops. An improperly seated cap will prevent system pressurization, and can also force coolant though the overflow.

A second possibility would be a faulty thermostat. There have been a scant few failures. The dealer can test this easiest. Third possibility would be a bad water pump. I have heard of at least one. If all these fail to produce a culprit, there is a service bulletin which authorizes the dealer to replace your fan with a fully shrouded fan, in cases like yours. Finally, consider SpyderPops Missing Air Dam, which will force all the air coming in through the radiator.

You should not have to see a dealer to reset the computer. Limp mode due to overheating should clear, after the Spyder has cooled down and the key has been off a while. The standard reset for limp mode (after the condition has cleared) is to turn the key on and off three times. There is an explanation of the overheating limp mode in your manual, with the appropriate responses.

I know you are riding in a hot climate, but others are doing so successfully, so you should be able to. You may not be able to avoid limp mode if it is broiling, and you are in stop-and-go traffic, but the steps above should help. On the road, it should be avoidable. If not, you need a little help from the dealer, not just a computer reset. Best of luck!
