The ride up to Rock City (just about to the peak of Lookout Mtn.) is really nice. Elevation is around 2,000 ft. During all this climbing the Spyder was perfect! And, did it get a lot of attention! Of course, we all know about that! Lol! Of course, we wanted to finally, “See Rock City”. All my years growing up in and around the Midwest, countless times, I would see that very sign on barns. J It was really neat! It was a bit cloudy. But, on clear day, you can see 7 states. Oh! When you are atop Lookout Mtn. you are actually in Georgia! (I need to update my map signature J). It is beautiful up there, too!
Jean and I had to hold onto our jackets and helmets since the trunk was full of rain gear. But, then we got the idea to ask someone at the gift shop to see if they could keep our gear behind the counter. They were happy to. So, that made our visit there really nice.
After we finished there, we headed to the top of Lookout Mtn., and then, headed down the other side. “Wow” describes it quite well, too! There are some very fine homes up there, too. Some older; some new. The highest elevation I remember seeing on my GPS was about 2,200 ft.
Later on, we headed over to another range of Mountains; Signal Mountain & Suck Creek Mountain. Years ago (1981), I remember driving up Signal Mtn. while delivering a car for a dealership in Chattanooga. And, on Signal Mtn. is this house that looks like a flying saucer. I wanted to see it again.
After riding around for over an hour, I finally punched into the GPS ‘Signal Mountain Rd’. Wa-La! Success! Yeah…. I’m one of those travelers that doesn’t like asking directions! Lol! So; as a result, I end up lost – quite a bit, actually! But, if you are going to be lost; why not be lost riding a Spyder, right??!! J
So; we begin climbing Signal Mtn. (finally). Lots of switchbacks on this one, too! And, sometimes the lane went from 1 to 2 lanes. That was a bit nervous. Some of the drivers were certainly more used to that road than me! Around a right bend we go, and there it is; the flying saucer house! It was built in 1970. And, now it does look a bit dated. But; still, quite unique. When I found it back in 1981, it was at night. You can only imagine how weird that was. Apparently, it has been for sale for over a year and a half.
After taking a couple of photos, we headed on. Elevation was around 1,600+ ft. in this area. There is a little town up there called, ‘Signal Mountain, as well. We rode awhile, and then began a descent that was quite beautiful.
After we leveled off I continued heading west? I just don’t recall. Ha! I decided to make a left several miles out. And, the country side is much like it is here; with the exception of looking to the left you see Signal Mtn., and Suck Creek Mtn. Really pretty country! A few miles of nice twisties we landed at a little general store, and got something to drink. After talking with a few of the locals and signing autographs, we headed out. Of course, we were signing for the Spyder. Lol! We cruised over to Suck Creek Rd. And, that’s right… it leads you right up, Suck Creek Mountain! Now folks; that’s just another really, really nice Spyder ride! All that, and we are only about 30 minutes from our hotel!
Suck Creek Mtn. was really, really, relaxing! The temps were high 70s. Just wonderful! Oh! And, I didn’t mention this; my jacket of choice for this entire trip was the Tour Master Draft Mesh Jacket. Perfect! Once you begin rolling, you feel the breeze. I wore it always while riding. Full armor, and everything! Jean bought a First Gear summer jacket for the trip. That one doesn’t breathe quite like the ‘Draft’. But, Tour Master doesn’t offer the Draft for Ladies.
