• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

kewlmetal backrest and luggage rack

Has anybody installed this yet? It seems to be the least expensive way to go, if you want a backrest. I'm new and it is a little confusing when you want part 'A', but need parts 'B' and 'C' also. And, part 'C' allows you to mount part 'D'.

I just purchased a 2008 red SM5 this weekend and will be picking up March 15 due to snow conditions where I live. So, I have time to determine what accessories I will need. The backrest is the first thing I need for my gf.

I like the Corbin backrest, but don't feel the need right now to change the seat. And, the BRP backrest requires their rear sport rack; the sport rack seems a tad high. I know the BRP rear rack bag can install on the BRP sport rack. But, a Givi can install on the kewlmetal luggae rack and provide more storage space. Like I said it's just a little confusing to a newbee.

It sounds like you have a firm grasp of the available options. Now you just have to balance price, features and options. Let's see what accessories do I want for for my Spyder :dontknow: :congrats:on being in a position to have to make those decisions. Ryde Safe and enjoy:thumbup:

Wyliec i do not have a spyder yetbut i'am looking at those options also i like the corbin seat and backrest because this will allow me to add that extra brake light on the back made by NMN. figuring if i want to add saddlebags i would go with the givi because they come off like suit cases. i think i got all this right if not i hope somebody will correct me before i buy stuff i can't use. also planning on 4" nmn risers, triple play lights nmn thats all i can think of for now. :dontknow::dontknow:

BRP backrest is about twice the price of the KM combo, but it is removable in about 10 seconds when you don't want to use it. It is a substantial piece with a nice curve in to help passenger stay put and is adjustable front to back about 2". Kewelmetal provides a more usable luggage rack but the backrest is bolted on. KM will accept mounting plate for hard trunk, but I think that has been done with the BRP sport rack as well. Either way, I think a backrest is a must for passenger comfort and security as this thing pitches passengers around more than any motorcycle.

Sounds like a good plan Roger. Of course, I'm partial to the Russell saddle over the Corbin but I really haven't heard any major complaints about the Corbin saddle for the Spyder.

If you add the Givi bags, you can also add a Givi topcase. The topcases can be fitted with an optional passenger backrest. Kewlmetal also offers a Givi topcase option for their rack.
