• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Just had my 1st service done - they used 4T 0W40 synthetic oil - anyone else?

The thing that I would focus on is that nowhere on the bottle does it say it's for wet clutch set up. :dontknow: That maybe why the spyders blanked out on the bottle. Will the oil hurt the motor? No Will it hurt the trans? :dontknow: I wouldn't want to take that chance, and I don't think that dealer wants to ether, that's why they are doing what they're doing. At the end of the day MY faith in that dealer would be on check!!! That's just me, that's why I do most of my own wrenching, and cringe when I go to the dealer. When you find a good one that's great!!

They did what they said they would do. Used the correct kit. Not sure if it was a Tech issue or what, but the Service Mgr said he is looking at the records of recent Spyder service records. On the receipt it stated that the next full service is taken care of, just as he said he would yesterday. Saving me $500.

Giving that dealer a thumbs up for his courtesy. it's rare.

The dealer did what they should have done and made it right, they're the ones who used the wrong oil. I wouldn't call that a courtesy.

Like others have stated, this is why I do all my own work. I KNOW that correct parts have been used and I KNOW that the work was done right.

How many of you do the 9-mile ride, 10 min idle, then check oil level?? If you check it cold, what do you see for a reading?? Thanks.

As long as it is 4T with no molybdenum, synthetic is better, is OK for wet clutches and the Spyder. The required weight should be in the owners manual.

I ran into a similar thing with our mini van on the weight. The dealer put in 0-40 when right on the dip stick it states 10-30. Of course in Texas 10-40 is OK. My worry, is 0-40 too thin. I was assured it was OK. The van is on their factory extended warranty so if it is not I'll get a new engine.

Checking cold you may find that it shows full, or it may not show any at all. Roll the dice and take your chances or follow the procedure. I think everyone that gets a Spyder needs to do their own testing, so they understand the reasoning.

I check my engine oil level at the end of my 'Ryde Time'. Always look to see if anything is on the garage floor at the start of the next Ryde.

Nothing on the ground/floor makes it good to go.
I have been doing this oil check for several years now.
Never had any problems. This works on most Bikes.

Your free to do whatever makes you happy.
Have yourself a Blessed Day. ....

I changed my oil about a week ago with the BRP kit. I drained the Spyder with both plugs out, dipstick and oil filter removed for about 30-40 minutes. It was not dripping at all when I replaced the plugs and filter. I then cleaned up a bit before going back to check the oil level. When I did, the oil level was up just past the high mark - up to the top of the highest "ball" on the dipstick, if that makes sense. I had not started the engine yet so I assumed the oil would drop once it was circulating and filled up the filter.

This thread now makes we want to go back and recheck.

Don't over think this!!!! At the end of your next ride just check it after you get off your bike and go from there.

You are probably 100% correct. I don't have these same reservations on my Motorcycle or cars. I'm just new to the Spyder and some of it's unique service procedures.
